SUMMARY
Provides nursing care by assessment, planning, treatment and evaluation/re-evaluation of the patient. Provides safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, educative, individualized and goal-directed nursing care to patients of the Center.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently applies the Brown Medicine values of patient care priority, dignity, collaboration, integrity and quality in support of the Brown Medicine mission to deliver compassionate, high-quality patient care, research excellence and outstanding physician education. Is responsible for knowing and acting in accordance with the Brown Medicine Compliance Program and Code of Conduct.
Consistently practices the Brown Medicine Customer Service Standards.
Monitors and assesses the physical/psychological status of the patient through personal observation and interaction during pre-op, intra-op and post-operative phases of the procedural event (according to the daily assignment).
Assesses and responds to the individual, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient and significant others.
Acts as patient advocate in the coordination of patient care.
Provides patient education.
Demonstrates performance, understanding, and interpretation of diagnostic measures such as lab tests, radiology exams, EKGs, etc.
Identifies goals for the individual patient and communicates these goals to other involved in the patient's care
Utilizing professional nursing judgment, takes action to implement the nursing care plan and resolve the problems identified for the individual patient
Utilizing supplies, equipment and resources to contains costs without compromising delivery of care
Implements infection prevention measures and environmental safety practices as demonstrated through room preparation and high-level disinfection practices
Reports and documents information accurately and in a timely manner
Communicates a positive and caring attitude towards patient, physicians, staff, and all other contacts
Seeks guidance, direction and assistance where needed. Follows Center Policy and Procedures at all times and is an active participant in the QI program
Maintains confidentiality/privacy/security of all patients and Center's communications/documents
Gains knowledge of all equipment and supplies and is familiar with their location, especially emergency rugs, supplies and equipment. Participates in staff meetings, and In-services (mandatory and regular).
Demonstrates flexibility in patient care, assignment, schedule and needs of BMEC.
Supervises employees with lesser qualifications and delegates duties to them according to qualifications, skills, education and competency
Maintains a clean, pleasant and safe environment for self/other employees and patients/visitors
Performs other duties as assigned
Assumes responsibilities of the Nurse Manager in his/her absence as delegated.
Demonstrates competency in medication safety to include agents of anesthesia; moderate sedation is provided under the supervision of a qualified physician.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Good command of the English language, both verbal and written
Meets the needs of the nursing service as demanded by the schedule, particularly when overtime hours and time changes become necessary
Ability to work well with physicians, employees, patients and others.
Strong clinical skills specific to the endoscopy environment; endoscopy experience preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of a Professional School of Nursing
Current state licensure as a registered nurse
Current certification in BLS and ACLS
Evidence of continuing education
