Job Details:

General Summary:

Serves as the leader of the payroll team. Responsible for all processes and procedures for 1) processing payroll, 2) supporting employee and manager inquiries, and 3) administering several other processes (e.g. termination pay, electronic pay, Instant pay, and electronic pay stubs, severance, and deceased payments). 4) Maintains and performs payroll system set up for new paycodes, deduction codes, shift tables, state specific pay and overtime rules. Responsible for maintaining legal and regulatory compliance, SOX compliance, supporting new and existing compensation plans and implementing other strategic initiatives. Tasks time sensitive and require complete, timely and accurate completion.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll processing to ensure timely payment of all employees. Manages all aspects including reviewing and reconciling payroll activity, monitoring the electronic pay program, managing the termination pay process, and administering electronic pay stubs. Performs system maintenance and set up for new payment types, deductions, shift differentials, overtime and premium or penalty payments. Establishes new payroll reports as needed for processing payroll, performing data analysis, and reporting inquiries from internal and external sources.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll support to ensure timely resolution of all employee, manager, or other payroll inquiries. Responds to internal and external audit inquiries related to SOX compliance and payroll processing. Manages all aspects of payroll processing including evaluating telephone inquiries, email, and Case Management system statistics, including managing resource requirements, and ensuring appropriate customer service.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of payroll support to ensure timely resolution of all employee, manager, or other payroll inquiries. Responds to escalated inquiries that involve legal, Employee Relations, or the Department of Labor to ensure timely resolution.
  • Assists in the testing and completion of required updates to legacy payroll systems to ensure successful implementation and desired results.
  • Performs other relevant duties as required to ensure successful continued operations of Payroll.
Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Technical payroll skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll concepts and applicable rules and regulations and an ability to use to support the growth of the Company.
  • Technical payroll tax, and garnishment processing skills. Comprehensive understanding of payroll tax and garnishment concepts, applicable rules and regulations, and an ability to use this knowledge to support the growth of the Company.
  • Communication and presentation skills. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) complex topics in common language to facilitate transfer of knowledge. Need to communicate with all levels in the Company including senior management.
  • Computer knowledge. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) at an intermediate level or better. Understanding of Lawson Payroll highly desired.
  • Leadership skills. Ability to provide direction from a financial perspective consistent with the Company's strategic initiatives. Must have the mentality to step into the details when necessary and assist in resolving any issue facing the Company.
  • Multitasking skills. Ability to manage effectively multiple time-sensitive projects to desired results. Capacity to initiate and manage change in a fast paced environment.

Work Experience &/or Education:

  • Bachelors or associates degree in a business discipline.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
  • Eight years of payroll experience illustrating progressive maturity and responsibility primarily with more than 75,000 employees.
  • Five years' experience leading and mentoring large teams.
  • Multi-state (including California and Northeast United States) experience preferred.
