Job Details:General Summary:
The Property Tax Manager oversees Dollar General's real and personal property tax and unclaimed property reporting across all relevant state and local jurisdictions. This role ensures timely and accurate filing of renditions, coordination of audit documentation, execution of required payments, and the development of strategies that reduce tax liabilities and mitigate compliance risk. The position also collaborates with internal stakeholders and external consultants to maintain adherence to all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation—whether completed internally or through external consultants—review, and submission of real and personal property tax renditions across all applicable jurisdictions, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and operational excellence.
- Direct the management of property tax assessments, estimates, appeals, payments, and valuation records, establishing standards and controls that drive compliance and reduce exposure.
- Monitor and interpret changes in property tax laws and regulations, communicate potential impacts to leadership, and guide the team in implementing necessary adjustments.
- Build strong partnerships with assessors, tax consultants, Legal, and other stakeholders to support compliance efforts, resolve tax related inquiries, and represent the company's interests.
- Develop and execute strategies that optimize property tax liabilities, strengthen internal processes, and support effective risk management across the portfolio.
- Oversee unclaimed property compliance activities—including reconciliation, reporting, documentation, and audit support—while establishing consistent processes and accountability standards for the team.
- Collaborate cross functionally with Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Operations, and other internal partners to ensure accurate data collection, support audit activities, and manage accruals related to expense, abatements, and other incentive programs.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to team members, fostering development, strengthening technical capability, driving automation, and driving a culture of accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to manage high workloads, meet critical deadlines, and adapt effectively to evolving business needs and seasonal volume fluctuations.
- Strong commitment to collaboration and service excellence with the ability to build productive relationships across functional areas.
- Proven capability to lead, develop, and motivate a high performing team while managing competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Highly self directed with exceptional organizational, planning, prioritization, and analytical skills to support sound decision making.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office—particularly Excel—as well as experience with tax automation tools, data analytics platforms, and ERP systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
- Strong working knowledge of multi state property tax and unclaimed property laws, including compliance requirements and audit considerations.
Work Experience &/or Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field required.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in property tax and/or unclaimed property, preferably within a multi entity or multi location organization.
- Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing a team for 5+ years, with a demonstrated ability to manage performance and build technical capability.
- Experience partnering with and managing external consultants to support compliance, reporting, and audit activities.
- Professional certifications such as CPA or CMI preferred.
