Hybrid Role: Must be able to come on-site periodically and reside a commutable distance from the assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE's emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

A Financial Accountant is responsible for corporate and strategic business unit accounting functions. Responsibilities could include analyzing financial data and recording transactions, account reconciliations, analyzing and explaining variances from budget to actual, setting up and maintaining financial systems, financial statement presentation and reporting, and accounting research. Areas of accounting could include cost accounting, general accounting, holding company accounting, accounting information systems, affiliate billing and external reporting. This position is within Regulatory Accounting supporting both Electric and Gas Utilities.

Key Accountabilities

For Regulatory Accounting:

  • Supports rate cases and other regulatory filings: coordinates model inputs, analyzes specific issues, drafts responses to audit and discovery requests, prepares exhibits and work papers.
  • Provides guidance on regulatory accounting classification to clients. 
  • Reviews and approves FERC indicators on new accounting code requests. 

 

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of accounting experience in corporate and/or public accounting
Other Qualifications
  • Experience in the preparation of journal entries, financial statements, account reconciliations, budgets/forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Ability to organize work independently and to work in teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to resolve accounting issues and develop conclusions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • CPA, CMA or MBA
  • Experience with General Ledger Applications, Peoplesoft and/or SAP
  • Experience with regulatory accounting theory and practice
  • Project management skills
