Eastern Maine Electric Cooperative, Inc., a consumer owned electric utility based in Calais, Maineisseeking a well-qualified and self-motivated person for the position of Manager of Engineering or Systems Engineer, depending on experience and qualifications.  This hands-on position reports to the CEO.

 

Some areas of responsibilities include:         

  • Responsible for the engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance functions of the substations, distribution, and transmission system.
  • Perform voltage drop studies, short circuit analysis, sectionalizing, arc-flash analysis, coordination studies.
  • Oversee and direct the design and staking of overhead and underground engineering projects, transmission & distribution system improvements, new and upgraded services, line relocations, and work plan projects.
  • Responsible for the process of the interconnection of distributed energy resources and net metering.
  • Oversee the line extension process.
  • Evaluate and analyze system outages, blinks, and power quality issues.
  • Maintain and update the computer model of the electric system.
  • Oversee and maintain the Milsoft outage management system and Aclara metering system.
  • Maintain the Spill Prevention Plans.
  • Program electronic reclosures, meters, and regulators.
  • Responsible for the transformer disposal program.
  • Assist in preparation of Construction Work Plans and Long-Range Plans.
  • Responsible for producing and maintaining electric system specifications and drawings.
  • Assist in managing major outages.
  • Oversee two staking engineers and office support staff.
  • Oversee meter and reclosure testing.
  • Assist Operations Department as needed to solve operational system issues.
  • Review and inspect completed work order projects.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 2 years of electrical engineering experience in the electric industry.
  • Professional Engineer or the ability to become licensed in Maine is desired.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable policies, rules, regulations, and codes relating to design and operation of transmission and distribution – NESC code. Knowledge of RUS design specifications and rules is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NISC is preferable.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
