Job Summary:
Under general supervision, and according to well defined policies and procedures, the MA/MR assists in the delivery of primary health and patient care management, interviews patients and/or patients' representatives to obtain necessary personal, demographic, and financial information and identification. Performs routine clerical, secretarial and administrative work in answering telephones, receiving the public, providing customer assistance, data processing, computer data entry and other record keeping tasks related to the patients' registration within the registration areas. This position assists with flow of patients from the waiting area to exam rooms and perform preparatory work on patients to ensure efficient use of the physician's time. Experience with medical terminology and practice management systems preferred.

Job Essentials:
- Welcomes patients and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone; answering or referring inquiries.
- Maintains patient files, records, and other information is complete and accurate. Revise as needed.
- Retrieves messages from voicemail system. Retrieve faxes from onbase and properly route to providers or scanning into the EMR/EHR system.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by verifying patient insurance benefits and eligibility prior to the appointment; reminding patients of their appointment the day before whether it be by phone or utilizing the wellapp; registering and checking in patients in a timely manner; preparing necessary documents for the visit; notifying provider of patients' late arrival; rescheduling or moving late arriving patients when necessary.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating patient demographics and insurance information in the electronic health records system.
- Maintains accurate financial records by updating patient financial information; recording and collecting patient charges; providing patients with receipts for payments in Athena.
- Prepares exam room by sterilizing, maintaining supplies and equipment for treatments.
- Takes patient histories and vital signs and documents in EMR/EHR systems. Assists the physician in preparing for minor surgeries, physicals, and basic wound care.
- Phlebotomy/EKG as ordered by physician.
- Provides general information on departmental policies and procedures.
- Obtains copies of patient identification and insurance identification and scans into Document Imaging system. Also, scans all signed forms into Document Imaging system.
- Hands out history and/or screening forms for specific modalities to patients when necessary.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with patients, visitors, co-workers, physicians, and ancillary departments in accordance with Service Excellence Standards.
- Demonstrates appropriate and courteous telephone etiquette during telephone exchanges. Relays essential phone messages. Contacts physicians' offices to exchange and gather information regarding patients.
- Maintains an orderly waiting room.
- Respects the privacy and confidentiality of each patient record.
- Asks for deposits/payments and/or makes proper patient referral to Credit Representative as needed.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Participates in professional development activities to keep current with health care trends and practices.
- Participates in departmental quality assurance endeavors and in his/her own performance evaluation process.
- Assists and performs other related duties as necessary to ensure quality patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- High School Graduate or equivalent or 5 years of Medical Assistant/PCT experience
- Completion of an accredited program for Medical Assistant/Patient Care Technician (PCT) preferred.
- Current CPR Certification preferred
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)/Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)/Patient Care Technician (PCT) Certification required for injection administration and medication documentation / handling.
- Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
- Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
- Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
- Skill in taking vital signs.
- Skill in maintaining medical records and recording test results.
- Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
- Knowledge of health care administration principles.
- Skill in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting information.
- Skill in written and verbal communication.

The rate of pay for each position will be determined based on a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, qualifications, skills, etc. The minimum rate does not include bonuses/incentives, differential pay or other forms of compensation.
