SUMMARY:

The Sr. Account Manager works with the client and producer to develop the client's employee benefits strategy and is responsible for implementation of the strategy and service of the account.  The Sr. Account Manager oversees the client service team and is responsible for all aspects of client service. This responsibility includes plan design and program management, financial analysis and modeling, providing compliance guidance, managing or providing on-going client support, developing and implementing a communication program and materials, and collaborating with the team that also supports the client. The Sr. Account Manager also uses his or her understanding of client needs and objectives to expand business opportunities and further solidify client relationships and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Service

  • Establish and maintain the primary, on-going benefits service relationship with client;
  • Work with clients, producers and other team members to assess the client's plan objectives and develop a comprehensive client service delivery program to meet those objectives;
  • Analyze financial data and model program alternatives, and advise client of alternatives and the recommended strategy;
  • Manage the marketing process and negotiate with carriers and vendors on client's behalf to provide cost effective solutions for the client;
  • Manage the employee communication and open enrollment process for the client;
  • Maintain expert knowledge regarding benefit products and trends and keep the client advised as appropriate;
  • Advise clients on government reporting compliance issues, State and Federal legislation, rules and regulations
  • Participate in sales presentations as part of client/prospect teams

Personal and Organizational Development

  • Set priorities and manage workflow for self and support team to ensure all goals are met;
  • Maintain up-to-date proposals, workflow logs, update all benefits information on agency management system, manuals or other required documentation and records;
  • Interact with others effectively using  strong, clear communication skills, cooperating purposefully, and providing information and guidance as needed to achieve the business, profitability and retention goals of the Company;
  • Stay informed regarding industry information, new product/program developments, coverages, legislation, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance;
  • Project a professional image in action and appearance.
KEY COMPETENCIES:
  • Full knowledge of Employee Benefits lines of coverage and services;
  • Display strong financial background and understanding of financial underwriting concepts as well as analytical knowledge related to Employee Benefits;
  • Broad knowledge of Health and Welfare compliance and regulations, HIPAA, and pending ACA legislation.
  • Advanced knowledge of navigating the Internet as well as various Microsoft Office programs to include Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher & Excel;
  • Strong attention to detail and time management abilities;
  • Strong ability to multi-task and assign priority;
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both with and without direct supervision;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Demonstrated experience with agency management systems, rating procedures, coverages, and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain, and write assigned clients and prospects;
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • College degree preferred. High school diploma with some college required;
  • Four or more years experience as an Account Manger with a benefits consulting or brokerage firm, or comparable experience with a medical carrier;
  • Must have working knowledge of a variety of Microsoft Office computer software applications to include Excel, Word and presentation software.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to juggle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.  Position continually requires teamwork, demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

•    California Life and Health License
•    Advanced professional designations such as CEBS, GBA, PHR and CLU preferred 
•    Valid Driver License
