First Student is hiring immediately for an entry-level Mechanic at our Baton Rouge location. We offer paid training, steady hours, and a clear path to grow your skills and career.

What You'll Do

As a technician at First Student, you'll help ensure the safety and reliability of our fleet of school buses. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Performing basic maintenance and repairs on brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, and transmissions

  • Using diagnostic tools to identify mechanical issues

  • Completing work orders and documentation

  • Assisting with mobile emergency repairs as needed

You'll gain practical experience while working alongside experienced technicians and have opportunities to continue building your skillset.

Who We're Looking For

We're seeking candidates who:

  • Have recently completed a diesel, automotive, or mechanical training program

  • Have a basic set of mechanic's tools or are in the process of building one

  • Hold a valid driver's license and are open to obtaining a CDL (we'll provide the training)

  • Are reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated to grow in the field

Additional Considerations

This role is a strong fit for candidates who:

  • Are recent technical school graduates

  • Have military experience in vehicle maintenance

  • Are returning to the workforce

  • Prefer hourly work over flat-rate pay

Mechanics in this position are classified as safety-sensitive employees and must pass DOT drug testing. Please note: Federal regulations prohibit the use of Schedule I drugs, including marijuana, for any reason.
