We're looking for a Senior Director of Technical Services to join our team in Warrington (UK) and report directly to the Business Unit Technology Officer.
Summary:
In this pivotal role, you'll own the technical strategy, resourcing, and execution for our consumer products, small appliances, and portable powered devices. You'll be the driving force behind defining technical requirements, building out comprehensive roadmaps, and forging key partnerships. This is a unique opportunity to blend hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership and business development.
What You'll Do:
- Lead Technical Strategy: Develop and execute the overarching technical strategy for our consumer products, small appliances, and portable powered devices business units.
- Define Requirements & Roadmaps: Own the definition of technical requirements and build out long-term technology roadmaps that align with business goals and market trends.
- Drive Innovation: Identify, evaluate, and integrate new technologies and processes to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Build Partnerships: Establish and nurture strategic partnerships with technology providers, suppliers, and external development teams to expand our capabilities.
- Hands-On Leadership: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams, actively participating in problem-solving and design reviews. You'll be comfortable rolling up your sleeves when needed.
- Resource Management: Strategically allocate technical resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget, meeting high-quality standards. This includes leading diverse global teams and projects across different regions.
- Customer Engagement: Work closely with the VPs and GMs of each business unit to present and "sell" our technical capabilities and services to key customers, building strong, lasting relationships.
- Collaborate & Influence: Operate autonomously while seamlessly collaborating with the broader technical organization, sharing insights and leveraging collective expertise.
- Business Development Support: Act as a technical subject matter expert during sales cycles, helping to articulate the value proposition of our solutions to potential clients.
What You'll Bring:
- 10+ years of experience designing and manufacturing technology-based products, with a strong focus on consumer electronics, small appliances, or portable powered devices.
- Proven track record in a senior technical leadership role, demonstrating ownership of technical strategy and execution.
- Deep understanding of product development lifecycle, from concept to mass production.
- Strong technical acumen across various disciplines relevant to our product categories (e.g., electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, firmware, IoT, material science).
- Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and manage technical teams, including those that are geographically dispersed.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership and external customers.
- Strategic thinking with a keen eye for market trends and competitive landscapes.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritize effectively, and manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
- Experience in partnership development and managing external technical relationships.
- Willingness and ability to travel globally as required to support business needs and engage with teams and partners.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
- Eigibility to work in the UK.
