Responsibilities

  • Performs as the Technical Writer's/supervisor's staff assistant and receives tasks, supervision, and guidance on all assignments.
  • Conducts research and prepares drafts of assigned portions of material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogues, and related technical and administrative publications.
  • Organizes research material and assists with writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Drafts revisions of changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding and maintains records and files of technical writing work and revisions.
  • Checks work methods, procedures, installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment. Reviews data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment, manufacturers and trade catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
  • Observes all activities with production and engineering personnel and reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods. May participate in interviews.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to become familiar with technology, operating procedures, and production sequence and details.
  • Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material, as well as assists in laying out material for publication and working with production to complete projects.
  • Conducts word-processing and duplication of material, as necessary. May also draft speeches, articles, and public releases for supervisor review.
  • Works independently on specific designated and approved recurring work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED; Undergraduate degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field preferred
  • Experience in researching, writing, editing, proofreading, or performing word-processing of written materials preferred
  • Ability to grasp and understand the organization and functions of the customer
  • Demonstratable project and workload management skills; strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills; oral and written
  • Intermediate skills with the Microsoft Office suite of applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other common software applications and databases, knowledge of desktop publishing or graphics programs preferred
  • Proven commitment and expertise to provide excellent customer service; positive and flexible
  • Ability to work in a team environment and maintain a professional disposition
This position requires U.S. Citizenship and a 7 (or 10) year minimum background investigation.   Agency Overview The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) plays a critical role in the Asset Forfeiture program by managing and selling assets seized and forfeited by federal law enforcement agencies nationwide. Proceeds generated from asset sales are used to compensate victims, supplement funding for law enforcement initiatives and support community programs.
