Description

The Instructional Technologist (media production) is a skilled and creative multimedia producer who will be responsible for creating and editing compelling video, audio, and multimedia content that effectively communicates course learning objectives and engages our online students. As part of a team, you will play an important role in producing high-quality videos, podcasts, and interactive media that support our education efforts, enhance our online learning systems, and drive student engagement across a variety of learning styles, both in online and hybrid course delivery in support of the educational mission of Gonzaga University.

The budgeted annual salary that the University reasonably expects to offer for this position is $61,411 – $66,000. The full internal range is $61,411- $83,086.

Essential Functions

  • Proven experience as a Video Specialist or similar role, with strong knowledge of video production, including lighting, sound, composition, and visual storytelling techniques.
  • Proficiency in video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere Pro or similar tools.
  • Ability to interpret a subject matter expert's content into a content plan, ensuring alignment with the department's guidelines and overall course objectives.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to seamlessly edit footage, add visual effects, and enhance overall video quality.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to bring innovative ideas and concepts to video projects.
  • Understanding of online learning best practices for video content and the ability to optimize videos to improve visibility and engagement.
  • Familiarity with video analytics and tracking tools to measure video performance and make data-driven decisions. We use Kaltura as a platform.
  • Produces digital media content for online and hybrid courses.
  • Operate camera, audio, and lighting equipment during lectures, classroom presentations, and productions, and scripted marketing projects.
  • Ensures Copyright and ADA compliance in online course and media development.

Duties may also include:
  • Performs project management duties for course design projects.
  • Consult with and support faculty on course interactive design and development, course structures, and various media.
  • Consult with and support faculty on course assessment design and development.
  • Designs digital media for courses.
  • Manages student workers in the production of course materials and LMS content implementation.
  • Implements content in courses via LMS.
  • Supports faculty LMS issues.
  • Communicates with vendors' account managers, support, engineers, and project managers.
  • Participates in University committee overseeing Classroom Technology.
  • Trains faculty and staff in desktop media production, LMS tools, and digital media integration
  • Develops and delivers various formats of Faculty Development Workshops.
  • Supports self-paced Faculty Development Program.
  • Plans, records and delivers departmental podcasts on instructional technology.
  • Supports pedagogical and technological innovation in teaching and course design.
  • Conducts research into emerging technologies for teaching and learning.
  • Develops strategic initiatives related to emerging media technologies.
  • Manages the RFP process and contracting for projects related to emerging media technologies.
  • Creates institutional buy-in for new technology implementation.
  • Develops and manages strategic communication initiatives about emerging media technologies.
  • Guides the technical implementation (hardware, infrastructure, deployment in the LMS, etc.) of emerging media technologies.
  • Develops training materials for emerging media technology implementation.
  • Serves as the lead trainer for faculty and staff in the adoption of new media technologies.
  • Assesses efficacy of new media products and makes recommendations for additional uses or integrations based on that assessment.
  • Serves as a front-line producer of emerging media for online and hybrid courses.
  • Directs the process of implementation of new media technologies in the LMS.
  • Maintains and updates the university's media repository​.


Other Functions

  • Networks with persons with similar interests and skills throughout Gonzaga, the technology fields, and e-learning fields to enhance problem-solving possibilities.
  • Participates in University committees as needed.
  • Other tasks as requested by the Department.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BA + three (3) years of related instructional technology experience (specifically Film Production, Media Studies, or a similar discipline) or seven (7) years of related experience if substituting experience for education requirement.
    • For example, instructional design, technology integration in learning environments, developing courses for online and/or hybrid delivery, or educational media production.
  • Knowledge of emerging media and video trends and best practices across various digital platforms.
  • Experience using Canvas or similar LMS for course delivery.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously, and the ability to interface with internal and external clients and outside vendors and supporters.
  • An awareness of the latest technologies and software tools as needed in the video production fields for educational technology and pedagogy and an ability to apply that knowledge across disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to effectively manage video projects from start to finish.


Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
  • Three years or more experience in higher education curriculum or course design, or educational media design and production.
  • Proficiency with HTML5 design and media production.
  • Project Management Certification
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
  • Experience with AR/VR/XR and virtual production using Unreal Engine
  • Experience in motion graphics using software such as AfterEffects to produce visual effects, animations, and other content
  • Client experience and the ability to effectively direct subject matter experts during a production
  • Proven experience in video production and editing, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your video production and editing skills, demonstrating creativity, technical proficiency, and effective storytelling abilities.
  • Familiarity with graphic design principles and the ability to incorporate graphics and animations into video content is a plus.
