Description
The Director of Human Resources – Distribution is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full cycle Human Resources support to Harbor Freight Tools Distribution Center network. The role is critical in executing our people initiatives and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement. This position will require an analytical-thinking and innovative HR leader who can drive sustainable improvement and projects to support Harbor Freight Tools rapid growth as well as its long-term people strategy. A priority of this position will be to oversee the employee relations, career development, succession planning, learning & development organizational change management for the HFT distribution network.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The ability to understand business goals and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity, and development of HR with the company
- A true hands-on approach as well as the ability to successfully monitor the “pulse” of the associates to ensure a high level of associate engagement
- Demonstrate a passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvements
- Serves as the Chief People Officer in the Distribution Center and is a key member of the Enterprise HR Leadership Steering Team. This role oversees all Associate centric HR Development and Training teams in the distribution centers
- Direct and manage human resources initiatives and tasks in the areas of DC recruitment, compensation, benefits, training, succession planning, and associate relations
- Demonstrate a strong focus on solutions and be comfortable working in an environment that demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions
- Continually assess the competitiveness of programs and practices against relevant comparable companies, industries, and markets

- Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously – oriented on results
- Demonstrate the ability to be comfortable with a high-volume workload and not be afraid to “roll up your sleeves” and be present throughout the Distribution Centers
- Success in creating and driving effective talent development, employee relations, retention and recognition programs
- Ensure policies, procedures, and human resource programs are consistently administered and aligned with organizational goals and are in compliance with professional standards, state and federal regulatory requirements, and laws
- Accomplishes special project results by identifying and clarifying issues and priorities, communicating and coordinating requirements, expediting fulfillment, evaluating milestone accomplishments, evaluating optional courses of action, changing assumptions and modifying direction
- Supports management by providing human resources advice, counsel, and decisions; analyzing information and applications
- Guides management and employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines; communicating and enforcing organization values

Requirements
Education and Experience
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required. Preferred field of study in HR, Business Administration, or Organizational Development.
- Professional PHR, SPHR, GPHR, or SHRM-CP preferred
Years of Experience
- Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, including a leadership role overseeing HR teams or partners. Experience within Distribution/Supply Chain, Manufacturing, or Retail environments a plus.

- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with diverse groups of employees, multi-cultural and regional groups across the U.S.
- Sense of urgency, collaborative team style, and ability to quickly adapt to changes in priorities with strong decision-making skills
- Strong ability to multi-task for timely project completions
- Must be hands-on and have a strong “whatever it takes” attitude to get the job done
- Familiar with federal and state employment laws such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, etc.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and carry out responsibilities with minimum direction
- Demonstrated proficiency in problem-solving tools and techniques
