Essential Duties:
The Senior Weld Engineer for the engineering department uses experience and knowledge of fusion welding processes to analyze and evaluate welded system designs to ensure high quality weld processes can be performed during weld operations in Operations. The Senior Weld Engineer coordinates with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations and Quality to evaluate weld quality issues and provide guidance to weld processes in accordance with AWS specifications.
- Conduct, guide and direct weld analyses for welded systems by analyzing and evaluating weld designs to ensure compliance to AWS D1.1, D1.2, D1.3 and D17.1 and ensure Engineers supporting analyses comply with AWS requirements
- Reviews and provides feedback to FEA analysis results and understands implication of results on weld analyses
- Works with Mechanical Engineering staff to guide welded designs prior to analyses to reduce design risk on welded systems
- Developing specialized knowledge in their discipline. Serves as best practice/quality resource. Has awareness of latest technical developments in own area. Contributes towards strategy and policy development and ensure delivery within area of responsibility.
- Has in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrated with others; has working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
- Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Education/Experience/Other Skills & Abilities:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required; Welding Engineering Degree preferred
- AWS Certified Weld Engineer (CWENG) Certification Preferred
- Significant experience and knowledge of AWS D1.1 and AWS D17.1
- Significant Experience with GMAW Welding
- Significant experience with NDT methods, including but not limited to visual inspection, Mag Particle, and Ultrasound
- Experience with system design in an Aerospace environment
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
