The Discipline Technical Director is responsible for quality and efficiency of all technical aspects of engineering in their discipline, across the organization. The Discipline Technical Director directs policies and procedures appropriate to their discipline for the organization. The Discipline Technical Director contributes technical insight to business decisions and execution of projects to ensure alignment with the organization's technical expertise and work pursuits. The Discipline Technical Director works cooperatively with sector and organizational leadership to define, lead, and mobilize organization-wide strategies. This position is heavily matrixed and includes accountabilities to the Engineering Director, Sector Technical Directors and other technical leadership.

You would be joining us as a Fire Technical Director in our Operations department working on things like...

 

  • Defining goals and accountabilities to grow and develop the fire protection discipline, specifically in sprinkler, alarm, and/or code consulting.
  • Cascading goals from organization leadership through the discipline to support growing the organization.
  • Collaborating on innovation initiatives and leading the implementation of them through the discipline to improve and revolutionize engineering processes.
  • Consulting on business development decisions and adjusting technical expertise to meet future market and client expectations.  
  • Collaborating on business opportunities to leverage technical strengths in pursuit of new work to ensure a competitive market position.
  • Networking and cooperating across the organization sector leadership teams to progress organization and discipline goals.
  • Aligning discipline technical execution across the organization to streamline client experience and maximize client satisfaction.
  • Collaborating with sector leadership to align staffing strengths across sectors with workload and engineering approach for the discipline.
  • Coaching discipline staff on projects with the intent to multiply and build up the discipline.
  • Learning and applying up-to-date technical expertise and industry knowledge to grow and develop the discipline.
  • Leading the implementation of companywide innovation goals across the organization.
  • Representing the organization at industry events and developing technical thought leadership.
  • Developing, monitoring, and implementing policies and procedures appropriate to the technical execution of projects, including Engineer of Record responsibilities.
  • Consulting in support of risk management for the discipline.
  • Developing and managing the annual budget for discipline resources, conferences, and tradeshows.

 

We'd love for you to apply if you have...

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering, construction management, science, or technology preferred. Years of relevant experience in leadership/management position will be considered in lieu of requisite education. 
  • Professional Engineering Licensure or relevant discipline/industry equivalent required. 
  • Ten (10+) or greater years of relevant experience, with a minimum of five (5+) years leadership/management experience. 
  • A history of building and/or overseeing technical teams that drive business results.
  • A strong technical aptitude and understanding of the industry with a proven track record of quality monitoring, maintenance, and improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with cross-functional leadership to align efforts and meet organizational goals.
  • Very strong communication skills and keep others well informed and conveys information clearly, concisely, and professionally.
  • Very strong interpersonal and leadership skills; team-oriented.
  • An ability and willingness to learn areas adjacent to your area of expertise as well as the ability to teach others.
  • A strong desire to mentor team members and help them grow in their technical abilities and advance in their career.
  • A strong commitment to quality.
  • Working knowledge of earned value, contracts, and construction processes and methods required.
  • Working knowledge of Revit and Bluebeam Revu required.
