Want to join a growing non-profit organization dedicated to the science and technology of decision making? INFORMS is looking for a Director of Finance to join the staff leadership team. INFORMS is a 50-person staff team located in Catonsville, MD. INFORMS is a hybrid working environment with two days in the office.

The Director of Finance will have responsibility for INFORMS finances, including approximately a $13M annual operating budget and $20M portfolio. These responsibilities include financial policies, financial strategy, controls, reporting systems, and managing the general accounting functions including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes.

This position reports to the Executive Director, serves as a member of the staff leadership team, and manages the finance team. This is both a leadership and a hands-on position that focuses on driving efficiencies in technologies, policies and processes within the finance department and ensures the data integrity of the financial management systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Partner with the Executive Director, volunteer treasurer and leadership team on operational and strategic financial issues and plans. Provide recommendations based on financial analysis, projections, cost identification and allocations and revenue/expense analysis.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with strategic planning. Participate in ongoing strategic planning process as an integral part of the leadership team. Monitor operations against budget and provide timely recommendations for corrections.
  • Manage cash flow, forecasting, and investment accounts. Consult with investment advisors in monitoring investments, rebalancing portfolio, establishing new investments, and maintaining investment policies.
  • Engage, communicate, and partner with the volunteer treasurer. Work closely with treasurer to plan finance committee and investment committee meetings, agendas, reports, and annual work plan.
  • Participate in Board of Directors meetings. Serve as the staff liaison and an ex-officio member of the INFORMS Finance Committee and INFORMS Investment Committee.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The Director of Finance will have 7-10 years progressive finance, supervisory experience, including but not limited to accounting, budgeting, internal controls, reporting, and financial management systems. Must be able to make actionable recommendations to executive leadership.  Familiarity with ERP system, data-base structure.

  • A minimum of a BA or BS degree in accounting or finance, CPA strongly preferred.
  • Experience with 501(c)(3) is required and experience with federal/private grants a plus.
  • Exceptional organizational, technical, communication and customer service skills.
  • Significant experience with Microsoft GP, its functions, reporting and capabilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and reporting tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of U.S. GAAP required.
  • Skill in examining, developing, reengineering, and recommending financial systems and controls.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities across all levels of an organization.
  • Proven success in managing, leading, and engaging staff teams.
  • A customer service mindset.
  • The ability to set priorities, adhere to timelines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working in an environment of change, re-engineering, and continuous improvement.
