Your role in helping us shape the future:

Intelsat commercial aviation (CA) team is seeking for system architects (aka) SMTS. You will perform the technical research and development for the long-term system roadmap to achieve CA vision and will also be part of the team to guide in designing, developing software for aviation telecommunication products and services.

As a SMTS, you will be responsible for CA airborne system design, network, its interfaces to the ground and customer services, and the new evolving software system architecture to best serve the business needs and road maps. Expectation is to bring in latest cutting-edge technologies, design principle to deliver the product to customer expectation.

Can you drive these processes?

• Looking at improvement areas to existing system and proposing/driving the next generation system design.
• Primarily responsible for the Airborne System Software design and development.
• Responsible for evolving and scaling the platform for any WAN technologies (ATG/ ATG4/ Ku/ 2Ku/ KA, etc.)
• Responsible for delivery of application technology solutions and data information planning efforts.
• Able to develop and maintain scalable, modular, fault-tolerant, and portable software for the Gogo Airborne Broadband System running on a target platform using Embedded Linux solutions.
• Perform technical design reviews, code reviews, and system test reviews.
• Define application scope and objectives and prepare the technical and/or design specifications from which software will be developed by a team of developers.
• Interface with the Systems Engineering & Product teams to understand and influence project requirements.
• Interface with the business teams to understand the services and revenue-generating plans.
• Interface with the operations teams to understand the challenges to keep the business running.
• Ability to deep-dive on production issues and support during deployments.
• Sharing knowledge on newer technologies to team and providing trainings if necessary.
• Identify and propose Proof-of-concepts required for future releases. 

You should definitely have:

• Master's or bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related technology – advanced degree preferred.
• Hands-on experience of software development in an Embedded Linux environment and providing technical leadership of software teams.
• A minimum of 15+ years of relevant experience in the telecommunications and/or networking industry preferred.
• Strong communication skills including technical documentation, written reports and proposals, development and delivery of presentations and the ability to listen to and communicate effectively with customers and vendors.
• Demonstrated ability to work with other system architects and third party vendors (HW, SW) during design and integration.
• Demonstrated ability to lead both on- and off-shore teams effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, yet cooperatively in a dynamic, matrixed environment.

Technical Competency:

• Strong experience and skill in Object Oriented Design and Implementation.
• Strong experience in Embedded Linux environments.
• Strong programming and debugging skills using either Java, C, C++, or Python.
• Strong knowledge of IP networking protocols, routing, and technologies
• Experience with types of Wireless-Access-points and 802.11 standards.
• Experience with creating and validating user interfaces.
• Experience with Micro-services architecture and design principles.
• Experience with system-bus, database and web technologies. 
• Experience in Agile software development (story & sprint)
• Experience with Continuous Integration and Test Automation methodology

It would be nice if you had:

• Polyglot programming experience is preferred.
• Virtualization and containerization (VirtualBox, Docker, Containers, KVM) experience and AWS, would be a big plus
• Knowledge of Service Measurements and Software System Performance would be a plus
• Experience with modern build environments such as Jenkins and Spinnaker would be a plus.
• Experience with releasing products to FAA-regulated market would be a plus
• Experience with Avionics standards, is an add-on advantage such as ARINC, t615a, etc,.
