Description
The PV Field Testing Engineer/Technician will be responsible for executing onsite solar PV projects including PV module testing, inspections, audits, commissioning verification, troubleshooting, etc. Candidate will be responsible for executing work within all technical, commercial, safety regulatory, and environmental requirements to meet or exceed client's expectations. The candidate should also be able to troubleshoot issues that may arise during testing, resolve conflicts, communicate effectively virtually with colleagues and coordinate work with client's representatives onsite, be comfortable working in a group environment, and willing to put in extra effort to coordinate activities across time zones.
The candidate will have the following responsibilities:
- Travel to client sites and perform systems audits, inspections and commissioning on solar PV systems and components.
- Analyze test data and assist in report generation
- Participate in PV inspections to ensure safe and proper testing and data management
- Use and maintain test devices and tools
- Assist in coordination with client representatives and other onsite personnel
- Visit PV manufacturing facilities for quality control audits
Desired Qualifications
- B.S. in engineering or physics (4-year engineering/science degree) or equivalent PV industry experience
- An understanding of the components and operation of PV modules and systems
- Experience in PV testing/inspection, O&M, or electrician experience with C&I and/or utility scaled PV systems preferred
- Experience with I-V Curve Tracing, Megger Testing, Infrared Scanning, Visual Inspection, Multimeter Use and safety practices while conducting inspections and/or commissioning work.
- Experience in interpreting EL images and/or I-V curve traces and/or testing PV modules and cells is a plus
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal); diligent record-keeping; proficient Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- NABCEP certification preferred
- OSHA 10/30 certification, fall protection training, and training in arc-flash, lock-out/tag-out, and other special protective equipment and procedures desirable
- Ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions including but not limited to desert areas, winter conditions, nighttime work, long hours standing, climbing stairs and ladders.
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards).
