Senior Project Engineer - Battery & Energy Storage

Intertek, a leading provider of ATIC (Assurance, Testing, Inspection, and Certification) Services, is looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Electrical team in Cortland, NY.

What are we looking for?

The Senior Project Engineer responsible for independently conducting on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s), managing more complex projects. This position is also responsible for providing local expertise in one or more product categories, mentoring and training less senior technical personnel, and assisting with scoping and scheduling project work for the assigned team. This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $105K - $120K. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the EUT (equipment under test). 
  • Independently, conduct on and off-site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standard(s). 
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability. 
  • Follow established test plan. 
  • Train and mentor less senior technical staff.
  • Provide local technical expertise and maintain reviewer status in one or more product categories.
  • Proactively develop and communicate test procedures, new test fixtures and report shells for local office.
  • Investigate technical complaints for the local office and support accreditations efforts by performing technical audits locally.
  • Demonstrate enough product and/or standards knowledge to be considered an expert in multiple product categories for the local office.
  • Actively represent Intertek by participating on standards/industry committees and/or associations.
  • Follow sample handling procedures, ensuring that sample is logged in and out of the system.  Move equipment as needed through the facility. Properly package sample for shipment.
  • Provide complex sales support such as giving presentations during client visits.
  • Provide quotations for a large array of standards and complex projects and products.
  • Communicate project status and test results to client, sales personnel, and management throughout testing. Provide on-going support to clients as needed.
  • Within policy guidelines, identify, properly document, and recommend engineering judgments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 4+ years directly related experience with battery testing
  • Prior project management experience
  • Demonstrated experience with U.S., Canadian, and other international product safety standards
  • Experience with battery standards; UL 9540A, UL 1973, UN38.3 
  • Microsoft Office expertise
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to make technical decisions and engineering judgments independently within established parameters
  • Ability to travel as business needs dictate (up to 25%)
  • Valid unrestricted driver's license and reliable driving record
  • Applicants will be required to complete an I-9 to verify their eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • 6+ years of experience in similar industry
  • Master's degree in engineering 
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License
