TITLE: Director of Nutrient Management, Sustainability & Agronomic Sales

PURPOSE OF POSITION: 

  • Lead the strategic development and implementation of our Nutrient Management and Sustainability teams. Oversee our nutrient management team, which encompasses cost-effective manure application, site permitting, development and compliance. Create and implement effective sustainability initiatives with an emphasis on generating business value and aligning with our customer's current and future needs.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Lead, train and develop all nutrient management and sustainability team members providing direction and feedback for both team goals and initiatives as well as individual performance.
  • Oversee Department of National Resources (DNR) compliance, including developing and maintaining field application records according to regulatory requirements.
  • Active involvement in site development which can include permitting, manure management plan development, and other areas of DNR compliance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase company revenue streams through nutrient sales and cost share.
  • Development of new revenue and cost efficiency opportunities including but not limited to, solar, renewable energy, and carbon markets.        
  • Responsible for water management processes and procedures across the business as well as visibility to reporting and results for key partners to manage.
  • Grow and maintain key relationships with industry stakeholders to create and implement strategic programs and initiatives that align with our customer's current and future sustainability goals and objectives.
  • Further development of Smart Soil Partnership Programs to cultivate relationships and partnerships to increase in-field and edge-of-field conservation practices with our manure customers.
  • Knowledge and expertise in P-Index, RUSLE2 soil loss equation, GIS and GPS programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Iowa State University Extension crop science and nutrient uptake recommendations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state and federal government regulations that impact the business. 
  • Present updates as needed to internal and external key stakeholders.        
  • Collaborate with production and all support departments to create a positive working relationship that provides a high level of service.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The environment of this position will change daily pending weekly schedule and seasonal responsibilities. 
  • This position will have duties in all facilities of Iowa Select Farms so employee will need to be comfortable working in and being exposed to all facility environments.
  • This position may require some tasks to be performed in outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
  • While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.  
  • The environment you will be working will have nuisance levels of gasses and dust, particularly in the winter months.

 

PHYSICALITY REQUIREMENTS

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; read, talk and hear.  
  • The employee must be able to continuously repeat necessary movements such as bending, lifting and different hand movements as needed to complete tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds along with climbing up ladders and over gates

 

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

  • This is a full-time position that will require a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Occasional evening hours and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
  • Additional availability may be required during staffing or workload challenges.

 

TRAVEL

  • Regular travel within Iowa and Nebraska will be required for this position which entails the utilization of a company vehicle.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in an agriculture-related field or significant experience, plus five years of management experience preferred. 
  • Must have excellent computer experience, including Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Knowledge and expertise in P-Index, RUSLE2 Soil loss equation, Internet-based applications, GPS, and Geographical Information Systems (GIS).
  • Experience in leading swine production operations is preferred.
