Job Summary:
Under indirect supervision, has been cross-trained in all food service department activities The service areas include ware washing, patient trayline, patient room service activities, food and supply inventory, receiving and storage, catering, cafeteria service, vending and food preparation activities. May also be cross-trained as a grill cook or cook assistant.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. May prepare grilled food items to order for cafeteria customers during a designated meal period such as hamburgers, eggs, grilled cheese, according to pre-determined menus. Prepares and assembles appropriate quantities of food products (which includes mixing, chopping and slicing) according to instruction for use in cafeteria, catering, vending and patient feeding areas. Delivers food and supply items to patients according to prescribed diet and patient desires, within specified time frames. Inventories and prepares food items for display in cafeteria service area. Ensures adequate level of supplies, food, snack and beverage items for customer needs. Serves cafeteria customers. Assembles, fills and cleans food service equipment. Receives food and supply deliveries from outside vendors. Inspects items and ensures items received meet order specifications. Stores items in appropriate locations. Inventories supplies and rotates perishables appropriately. Maintains delivery records and issue logs. May perform other duties as assigned. Prepares and assembles food and supplies for catered events. Delivers catering items to meeting locations within specified time frames. Scrapes food debris and reusable wares. Operates dish machine effectively to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitation of items washed. Washes and sanitizes pots, pans and kitchen utensils. Cleans food service equipment and surfaces. Transports food items and carts to and from nursing units or other food service locations. Assembles patient trays with appropriate food and supply items according to menu specifications. Performs vending services for vending machine on and off premises. Stores items in appropriate locations. Rotates perishables appropriately. Maintains various logs. Inventories items. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Ability to operate standard quantity food service equipment (for example, dish machine, food processors, mixer, chopper, slicer, steam table, tray conveyer) required.

  • Knowledge of quantity food service preparation techniques required.

  • Must have good communication skills and ability to work well on service teams.

License, Certification, Registration

  • Driver's License (California)



  • Food Handler Certificate (California)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of hospital or institutional food service experience.


Notes:



  • May be required to work different locations/hours/shifts based on operational needs.

  • Scheduled work hours per week will be 20-32.
