Kamehameha Schools is looking for Full-Time Building Maintenance Repairer (BMR) to join the KS Kapalama Operations Trades Department Team. This is a full-time position that requires at least 40 hours/week.
Targeted starting hourly rate is $30-32/hour.

- Job experience in any of these skilled trade areas of Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Painting and Welding.
- Any type of Preventative Maintenance experience for facilities that include roof, gutter, storm drain, exterior building finishes and small construction equipment.
- Heavy equipment operation, areal lift use and forklift operation.

Licensing & Certification: Any union or trade school certification are a plus.
Job Summary
Entry-level position that works with direction and supervision to perform general and/or preventative maintenance and minor repairs to buildings, facilities, and equipment, and provides assistance to trade workers as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repair
- Reviews work to be performed in advance with Building Maintenance Repairer II/III to ensure understanding of work-related risks and proper mitigation to ensure safety.
- Assists trades, contractors, or BMR II/III workers in the skilled maintenance trades (including, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, masonry, welding) by performing duties of lesser skill.
- Assists with assembling materials and tools for work to be performed.
- With guidance, prepares work areas for work to be performed, and cleans work areas, machines, and equipment following work completion.
- With direction, may independently perform unskilled work to maintain and repair buildings, building systems, equipment, and interior finishes, or minor skilled maintenance and repair tasks.
Safety
- Attends all technical and safety- training, including on-the-job training, uses all PPE, and adheres to safety guidance.
- Reviews work to be performed in advance with skilled trades workers, working foreman, or manager to ensure understanding of work-related risks and proper mitigations to ensure safety.
- Reports all safety hazards to supervisor and/or immediately corrects if able to.
Administrative
- Records time worked and reports tasks completed in computerized work order management system using desktop computers and/or mobile technology devices.
- Participates in campus and department events and activities as scheduled.
- Adheres to all employee handbook protocols and policies including mandatory reporting.
- Constructively identifies and suggests ways to improve organizational effectiveness and operational efficiency.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
- High School Diploma or equivalent with basic computer knowledge.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Able to be certified to operate forklift, scissor lift, and or skid loader Good work ethic, including punctuality and good attendance.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and knowledge; ability to demonstrate increasing competence with training and experience.
- Willingness to accept and follow directions.
- Basic arithmetic.
- Ability to read and comprehend training materials.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow safety instructions.
- Ability to interpret simple sketches for work to be performed.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate after-hours school-related functions and activities.
- Demonstrated values of inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trade school or high school shop classes, previous work experience in related field.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- May require physical work; lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.
- Often requires walking/standing, bending/crouching/reaching/etc., and at times sitting.
- Manual dexterity and strength to work with hand tools.
Working Conditions (including environmental conditions)
- Work may involve exposure to extreme temperatures and contact with hazardous materials, dust, dirt, smoke, unpleasant odors, loud noises, etc.
- Often work outdoors and indoors.
- Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours but evening and weekend hours maybe required to meet goals and objectives.
