Job Summary
Under the direction of the Director, Enterprise Security, this position is responsible for leading, executing and maintaining various security initiatives across Kamehameha Schools (KS) Preschool sites statewide. This role ensures the strategic, effective execution of security procedures, conducts risk assessments, and provides expert security guidance to Preschool leadership to ensure the security of students, faculty, and staff. Requires strong collaboration with internal teams, external vendors, law enforcement, and community partners to enforce security protocols, training, and communications that align with KS's mission and objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
Security Procedures, Protocol and Management
Work with the Director, Enterprise Security to design, implement, and maintain security policies and procedures tailored to preschool environments to ensuring a unified security safety program.
Oversee the ongoing assessment of KS' Preschool Emergency Operations Plan, ensuring it remains current and compliant with federal, state, and local safety regulations, including child protection laws across all Preschool site locations.
Collaborate with local law enforcement, fire departments, emergency services, and school administrators to implement effective emergency response plans, including fire drills, lockdown procedures, and crisis management plans.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to conduct regular risk assessments and site evaluations at preschool locations to identify vulnerabilities, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend improvements to strengthen security and ensure quality control.
Partner with legal, HR, and audit teams to review, update, and ensure preschool security policies comply with best practices and regulatory requirements.
Works with school administrators to foster a security-conscious culture among staff and families.
Operational Security Oversight and Training
Serve as a liaison between preschool leadership, law enforcement, and emergency responders to strengthen security partnerships.
Provide guidance on physical security measures, such as access control, surveillance systems, and visitor management.
Develop and conduct drills for emergency scenarios, including active threats, and coordinate regular evacuation drills to ensure staff and students are familiar with protocols.
Manage and enhance security camera systems to ensure operation and effective monitoring of high-risk areas, promoting a proactive security environment.
Oversee and implement processes to ensure thorough background checks for volunteers, maintaining a secure environment for children and staff.
Develop and oversee security and emergency preparedness training for faculty and staff, ensuring readiness for various crisis situations through comprehensive emergency protocol training.
Lead active threat response training and organize child safety drills to equip staff with the skills and readiness to handle critical incidents and emergencies.
Oversees security staff across all Preschool sites.
Crisis Management, Communication and Coordination
Works with internal Communications department to develop crisis communication plans, ensuring timely and clear information dissemination during emergencies for various situations.
Participate in the Violence Intervention Team (VIT), responding to potential threats or incidents across various Preschool sites.
Maintain documentation of security incidents, inspections, and compliance efforts.
Report security concerns and incidents promptly to the Director, Security Enterprise, ensuring proper escalation and follow-up procedures are followed.
Position Requirements
Minimum Qualifications - An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the requirements listed.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Security Services, Criminal Investigation or closely related field.
Minimum 7 years of experience in law enforcement or emergency management.
Minimum 3 years of supervisor or lead experience.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with the campus community.
Strong emotional intelligence to collaborate effectively, build rapport, and resolve conflicts constructively.
Strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly developed interpersonal skills, allowing effective interaction with staff, students, parents, and the public.
Able to take initiative and work independently.
Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise discretion, and handle sensitive situations with a high level of integrity.
Ability to remain flexible in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of Presidential Policy Directive-8 (PPD-8) and Homeland Security Presidential Policy Directive-5 (HSPD-5)
Familiarity with the 32 Core Capabilities from the National Preparedness Goal
Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local laws including OSHA/HIOSH, DOT, PUC, ADA, EPA regulations and codes.
Knowledge of school safety regulations, emergency preparedness, and risk assessment best practices.
Experience in security management within educational settings, and knowledge of preschool operations.
Physical Requirements
Frequently sits, perform desk-based computer tasks and grasp light or fine manipulation, talk or hear.
Occasionally stand and/or walk, write by hand, and lift and/or carry, push and/or pull objects that weigh up to 50 pounds.
Rarely twist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crawl, climb, reach or work above shoulder, or grasp forcefully.
Working Conditions
Travel may be required, including visits to various locations and neighboring islands to conduct business.
Work is conducted in an office environment and may require work to be conducted in non-standard workplaces.
Work is typically conducted Monday through Friday at normal business hours, but evening and weekend hours are often required to meet goals and objectives.
