The Mammography Technologist provides support to the Imaging Department by performing high quality diagnostic radiology and screening mammography procedures in an outpatient setting.

Essential Duties:

  • Perform exams proficiently according to established procedures and techniques with minimal errors/poor technical quality that would affect results of interpretation.
  • Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and calibration procedures according to policy.
  • Assist in cross-training of staff and/or students.
  • Assist patients and physicians during and following procedures.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail in examinations preparation and results.
  • Prepares documents and reports for physicians interpretation!
  • Order, store and maintain adequate supplies in department.
  • Practices correct sterile, aseptic, decontamination and biohazardous waste disposal techniques.
  • Report unusual incidents appropriately and immediately.
  • Plan of care, procedure and purpose are explained to patient/family and routine questions are answered.
  • Provides necessary patient information on procedure reports (i.e., name, medical record number, surgical history, diagnosis symptoms).
  • Demonstrate knowledge of anatomy and physiology, signs and symptoms, CPR, and medical terminology.
  • Maintains equipment in good operating condition and reports malfunctions or need for repairs.
  • Coordinates procedures with nursing and ancillary services within department and with physicians and patients.
  • Assists with patient transportation when required.
  • Provides patient comfort during procedures.
  • Instructs patients regarding requirements prior to procedures, and precautionary measures during procedures.
  • Obtains appropriate equipment and sets up for procedures according to procedure.
  • Completes all ordered procedures during shift without sacrificing quality of work.
  • Prepares files, locate and retrieve patient procedures accurately.
  • Prepares patient charges and inputs data for fees and statistics.
  • Has a general understanding of all office functions.
  • Creates a courteous, polite and pleasant atmosphere with patient, physicians and Hospital staff.
  • Answers phone and identifies department and self.
  • Provide correct procedure for correct patient by checking requisition (prescription) and patient ID.
  • Assist in updating policies and procedures as requested.
  • Adhere to written hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency to perform specific duties and responsibilities, including use of equipment and performance of technical skills.
  • Interviews patients regarding signs/symptoms pertinent to procedure.
  • Supervises and delivers safe patient care with attention to infection control, patient safety, equipment (IV's, IMEDA, catheters, tubes) and proper body mechanics.
  • Seeks to enhance clinical knowledge pertinent to area of expertise.
  • Participate in self-evaluation.
  • Participates in quality management activities as required.
  • Seeks experience to enhance clinical knowledge of the adult and geriatric patient as evidenced by maintaining current education file with director.
  • Has a good attendance record.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req High school or equivalent
  • Req Specialized/technical training Graduate of an AMA approved 2 year Radiologic Technology Program
  • Req 1 year Experience as a mammography technologist.
  • Req Must have excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak, read and write English proficiently.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to effectively work with physicians, staff, and patients.

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Certified Mammographic Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH)
  • Req Mammography (ARRT)
  • Req Certified Radiologic Technologist (CA DPH)
  • Req Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The hourly rate range for this position is $46.00 – $76.07.
