Kelly® Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity with an industry-leading aerospace engineering client in Wichita, KS. Overview
Our client is a global leader in designing and manufacturing innovative aerospace solutions, supporting commercial and defense sectors. As a Mechanical Systems Design Engineer, you'll support new designs and modifications for aircraft structures and systems, focusing on the development of high-quality, timely design solutions. You'll work closely with cross-functional engineering teams and contribute throughout the product life cycle—from initial concept through to in-service support.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform autonomous design solution development of moderate to complex mechanical systems, including metallic/non-metallic structures and system installations (electrical, hydraulic, fuel).
  • Support project phases including part design, layout optimization, trade studies, weight reduction initiatives, certification activities, and in-service product support.
  • Create and modify design documentation (Design Datasets, Product Structures, etc.) using advanced engineering tools (SAP, CATIA, VPM, and others).
  • Collaborate with Static Stress, Fatigue & Damage Tolerance (F&DT), and other internal teams to deliver optimal design solutions.
  • Guide project execution from concept through completion, ensuring technical quality, efficiency, and alignment with customer requirements.
  • Serve as a technical mentor and contribute to the development of junior engineers.
  • Utilize or work toward obtaining Authorizer or Approver Technical Signatory status.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering, with a focus on structural design, analysis, or mechanics of materials.
  • Minimum of 9 years of design experience in airframe structures and/or aircraft system installation.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Demonstrated expertise using design software such as CATIA and enterprise tools like SAP.
  • Ability to write technical reports and communicate complex ideas effectively across teams.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and capable of working independently.
  • Understanding of maintenance repair shop processes and aircraft system capabilities.
  • Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~5% domestically; international travel may occur based on project requirements.
