Analytical Chemist

Job Description:


Participate in the development and use of technologies that provide IFF with new opportunities for profitable growth.

Conduct laboratory bench research in the area of chromatography and sample preparation.

Primary activities include execution of technical work under general supervision of senior technical staff. This will include carrying out chromatography sample preparation and testing as well as basic method development in GC.  The ability to develop technical approaches and plans, solve appropriate technical problems and work independently is also expected.

This position will require development of a detailed understanding of chromatographic theory.

Key Responsibilities:  In order of importance, list the critical responsibilities and skills of this position with the percentage of time devoted to each task.   Do not include anything which is less than 5% of the job.

1. Plan, setup and execute experiments                                                                          60%
2. Analyze data, accurately document experiments, propose next steps                           20%
3. Follow safe laboratory practices and keep areas clean                                                 10%
4. Participate in Department meetings and other R&D facility activities                              10%

Decision Making: 

Time management of assignments.
Identification of safe laboratory practices
Supervisor defined latitude for changes on assigned projects.

Requirements:  Briefly describe the educational background, job-related experience, technical knowledge or skills necessary to perform the job.

Essential:
BS in Chemistry with 1-5 years of industry experience, or fresh MS in chemistry.

Preferred:
Familiarization with Agilent OpenLAB and ChemStation GC software.
