Kelly Science is seeking an Associate Director of Operations for an animal research facility located in Boston, MA.
Salary: $90,000-110,000/year
Employment Type: Full Time; Direct Hire
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage daily operations of vivarium staff providing animal health checks, husbandry services, and research support.
- Supervise and review staff performance; conduct evaluations, mentoring, training, and career development.
- Ensure weekly scheduling and staff coverage.
- Maintain required documentation such as SOPs, animal census, individual animal records, facility maintenance records, and inventory management.
- Record and compile data for animal care, submit facility improvement work orders, and manage quality control testing.
- Schedule preventative maintenance and calibration for vivarium equipment, and maintain related records.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures for laboratory animals under the guidance of the Vivarium Director.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory inspections and readiness for AAALAC, IACUC, SOP's and other relevant agencies.
- Ensure adherence to SOPs and IACUC protocols.
- Address client inquiries and concerns about animal care and facility operations promptly.
- Oversee animal orders, receipt, transfers, quarantine, and import/export processes.
- Manage team assignments and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Handle inventory management, ordering, and receipt of vivarium supplies.
- Assist in budgeting and rate setting.
- Provide decision-making support and emergency backup in the absence of the Vivarium Director.
- Coordinate facility orientation training for new researchers and staff.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a scientific related field
- 8+ years of experience working within animal care/animal research environment
- LATg Certification required
- Previous leadership/management experience required
- Has an above average understanding of vivarium operations, animal health issues and treatment, personnel management, and possesses a variety of technical skills i.e.. Injections, blood collection, tissue collection, anesthesia in rodents.
