Clinical Specimen Accessioner - Vancouver, WA
 
Summary
The Specimen Accessioner plays a vital role in laboratory operations by receiving, processing, and preparing specimens for analysis. This position involves meticulous data entry, adherence to safety and procedural protocols, and effective collaboration with the laboratory team to ensure accurate and efficient processing of specimens.
 
Details:

  • Pay rate: $18 base with additional $1.25/hr for shift = $19.25/hr
  • Shifts available: full-time OR part-time availability
    • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday 10am - 8:30pm
    • Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 10am - 8:30pm
    • Part-time: Monday, Saturday 10am - 8:30pm
  • Duration: Temp-to-Hire (roughly 6 month temp period)
  • Bonus benefits while temp: Paid holidays, PTO accrual begins first day (available to use after 3 months)
  • Holiday schedule 2024: Closed Thanksgiving & Christmas days
  • Must be available to start ASAP

Responsibilities
  • Receive, count, and sort specimens delivered by mail carriers, directing them to appropriate departments.
  • Enter demographic information, test requests, insurance details, and other data into the Laboratory Information System with precision.
  • Inspect specimens for acceptability and prepare aliquots or samples for further laboratory analysis.
  • Transport specimens to designated departments and prepare those needing referral to external laboratories.
  • Electronically capture client and specimen data and scan requisition forms and necessary documents.
  • Dispose of specimens older than 14 days and sanitize benchtops regularly.
  • Adhere to all safety, operational, and procedural guidelines.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and technologists to support team goals and laboratory efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications
  • Certification, Associate's, or Bachelor's degree in related field preferred; equivalent experience is considered
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory environment and handling human specimens.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to multitask in a high-paced setting.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Team-oriented with flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Proficient in general PC usage, including Windows programs, Outlook, barcode readers, scanners, and printers.
  • Typing and data entry skills are essential.
  • Previous experience in patient care or office settings is preferred but not required.
