CNC Machine Operators - Position: CNC Machinist Reporting To: MES Manager Department: Manufacturing Engineering Services MES Position Summary: The CNC Machinist operates large-scale CNC milling machines to machine complex components to precise tolerances and surface finish requirements. This role is responsible for machine setup, program verification, process adjustments, and quality validation on parts weighing up to 80 tons and measuring up to 30 meters in length. The machinist must demonstrate strong knowledge of CNC controls, machining practices, tooling, and precision measurement while working safely in a heavy industrial environment. Key Responsibilities Interpret routings, engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD T specifications to determine proper setup and machining sequence Set up large workpieces using overhead cranes, fixtures, and rigging in accordance with safety standards Load, verify, and manage pre-set tooling in tool magazines/chains Operate large CNC milling machines and adjust speeds, feeds, offsets, and cutting parameters to achieve required tolerances and finishes Perform manual machining operations when required Monitor machining operations and make real-time adjustments to optimize performance and quality Inspect completed work using precision measuring instruments to verify conformance to specifications Troubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with Engineering and Supervision to resolve drawing discrepancies or process constraints Maintain safe work practices and adhere to all company safety policies Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency Perform other duties as assigned Required Qualifications Experience 3 5 years of CNC machining experience on large or heavy equipment Demonstrated experience operating large CNC milling machines or similar equipment Proficiency reading and interpreting blueprints, routings, and GD T Strong knowledge of machining practices including speeds, feeds, tooling selection, and cutting strategies Experience with machine setup, workholding, and alignment Ability to drill, tap, and perform precision machining operations Experience operating CNC machines manually when required Other Tasks as required Ability to work off shifts and possibly some weekends if needed CNC Control Requirements Required: Experience with Siemens CNC controls Required: Experience with Fanuc CNC controls Education High school diploma or GED required Technical training or machining certification preferred Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 60 lbs daily Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in a heavy industrial environment for extended periods Ability to safely work around large machinery and overhead cranes
