Job Title:  Data Entry Specialist
Location: Lemont, IL
Pay: $19.50 - $22 an hour - Depending on experience
Shift: Monday – Friday 1st shift

Position Overview:
Kelly Service is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Data Entry Specialist – Level 1 to support one of our top clients in their ongoing research on root-microbe interactions using multi-modal imaging. This crucial role will involve accurately transferring experimental data into their Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), ensuring the data is well-organized and readily accessible to our scientific team. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate with a biology background to gain experience in a collaborative research environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately enter experimental data from lab notebooks and other sources into our online Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) via a web interface.
  • Ensure data is organized, consistent, and readily accessible for the research team.
  • Maintain clear and organized data records.
  • Effectively communicate data entry progress and any potential issues to the scientific team.
  • Troubleshoot minor data entry related issues as needed.
  • Contribute to maintaining accurate records that support high-quality, cutting-edge research.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Assist with general laboratory management tasks, including inventory control, equipment maintenance, and supply management (as needed).  
  • Adhere to all institutional policies and safety guidelines.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Consistently deliver quality results on time.
  • Learn new technologies and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, preferably in Biology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, or Synthetic Biology.
  • Hands-on experience with Office 365 products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc.).
  • Experience with data entry via a web interface.
  • Must be able to transfer data accurately from lab notebooks into an online Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Motivated, organized, and disciplined with excellent record-keeping skills and superb attention to detail.
  • Solid understanding of basic biology concepts and familiarity with terms and methods used in synthetic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, imaging, and structural biology.
  • Familiarity with documentation systems (e.g., lab notebooks).
  • Excellent computer aptitude, including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • High degree of personal integrity, ability to multitask, hygiene-oriented, and quality and safety conscious.
  • Comfortable working independently and within a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to learn new technologies, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with institutional policies.  

Desired Skills:
  • Hands-on experience in a synthetic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, imaging, or structural biology laboratory.
