Electrical Design Engineer
 
Kelly® Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer for a direct hire position with our Addison, IL based client. If you are passionate about shaping the world we live in and are ready to reengineer your future, trust the experts at hiring experts.  


Overview 
 
Our client is a manufacturer of low and medium voltage (up to 38kV) power distribution equipment for commercial, industrial, utility, and data center customers. Due to growth, they're adding to their electrical design team.
 
In this role you'll develop electrical designs for the manufacturing of low & medium voltage equipment. This includes specifying design components, developing schematics, wiring diagrams, providing engineering support to manufacturing & customers, as well as collaborating with mechanical engineering and sales.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop electrical approval drawings inclusive of single lines, three lines, control schematics and bill of materials for assigned projects.
  • Design single phase, three phase and DC protection and control circuits.
  • Prepare and release electrical manufacturing drawings inclusive of wiring diagrams, interconnection diagrams and bill of materials to production and purchasing.
  • Ensure drawings are released and parts are ordered in time to support the production build schedule.
  • Address manufacturing component mounting assembly and wiring activities as needed.
  • Provide technical support to sales and company distributors in support of the company's quality customer service effort.
  • Participate in R&D projects. Align and actively contribute to the company's quality improvement initiatives.
  • Stay abreast of technical product developments through literature review and industry developments.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical engineers to ensure mechanical and electrical integration of components.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable standards, customer specifications, and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and revision control for all design files and drawings.
  • Update approval packages as required based on design review and customer feedback.
  • Communicate effectively across departments, supporting smooth project execution and timely delivery.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution with 2+ years' experience in electrical manufacturing / electrical construction, OR Associate degree in electrical engineering technology with 7 years' experience in electrical manufacturing / electrical construction.
  • Experience with Low voltage or Medium voltage electrical design; preferably in the power distribution industry.
  • AutoCAD 2D & MS Office proficiency required, an ERP (SAP, Oracle, JDE, etc.) experience a plus
Technical Competencies:
  • Accurately select protection, metering, and control components such as circuit breakers and protection devices based on the required application.
  • Understanding of the requirements for proper breaker selection and cable sizing based on application.
  • Application of power distribution and/or control schemes for electrical equipment and systems such as switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, electrical control panels, and power distribution circuits.
  • Create electrical schematics, control wiring plans, interconnection diagrams, and cable schedules from control schematics and power feed diagrams.
  • Understanding of panelboards, switchboards, and switchgears
  • Understanding control relay logic and PLCs a plus.
  • Understanding and application of NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and UL standards to electrical design is a plus.
  • Understand and implement designs from technical drawings
  • Inspect and test electrical components during and after product installation
  • Prepare documentation for electrical designs such as schematics, assembly drawings, and reports
  • Analyze project requirements to calculate supporting designs, including electrical requirements, safety standards, and motor controls.
  • Create plans for regular inspections and ongoing maintenance

  • Read technical drawings, project specifications, and clearly communicate technical information to others.
