Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist
Location: El Cajon, CA 92020
Pay Rate: $28.00 per hour
Assignment Length: 6-Month Contract
Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
This is a 6-month assignment supporting major Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) projects requiring focused execution and completion. The EH&S Specialist will play a key role in launching, implementing, and administering site-wide EH&S initiatives. This position ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while promoting a safe, healthy, and environmentally responsible workplace.
Key Responsibilities-
Develop, implement, and administer environmental, health, and safety policies and programs across the site.

Create and maintain procedures related to chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety to ensure regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.

Lead and oversee company training programs, including:

Compliance training

Safe handling and disposal of hazardous waste and bio-waste (chemical, radioactive, and/or medical)

Emergency response procedures

Industrial hygiene and occupational safety

Maintain safety equipment inventory and ensure readiness.

Conduct routine lab, plant, and office safety inspections, audits, and environmental impact studies.

Perform sampling and testing to identify potential environmental or safety concerns and recommend corrective actions.

Investigate incidents and accidents, prepare required regulatory reports, and analyze safety statistics.

Serve as point of contact for external agencies and emergency response personnel when necessary.

Review new products, equipment, and processes for potential hazards prior to implementation.

Support workers' compensation programs, as applicable.

Interpret and apply scientific principles and regulatory requirements broadly across the organization.

Support both short-term project goals and long-term EH&S business objectives.

Minimum 3+ years of relevant Environmental, Health & Safety experience.

Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent experience preferred but not required.

Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EH&S regulations.

Experience with hazardous waste handling, safety inspections, and compliance training programs preferred.

Advanced knowledge within area of specialization.

Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.

Ability to manage complex and non-routine tasks.

Capable of adapting procedures, techniques, and equipment to meet project and operational needs.

Strong communication skills with ability to work cross-functionally.
