Position: Research & Development Food Scientist
Location: Rock Hill, SC

Salary Range: $80,000 – $85,000/year

Overview:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative R&D Food Scientist with expertise in dry seasoning blends and functional food ingredients. This role plays a critical part in driving new product development, reformulation, and flavor innovation to meet customer needs and emerging market trends. The ideal candidate will be technically skilled, detail-oriented, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative seasoning blends and functional ingredient systems from concept to commercialization.

  • Match existing formulas while adhering to specific dietary or regulatory constraints (e.g., Certified Organic, Non-GMO).

  • Support sample creation and modifications based on customer feedback and internal evaluations.

  • Perform hands-on blending and precise ingredient weighing using gram scales.

  • Conduct sensory and functional evaluations on new ingredients and finished products.

  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Production, Quality, and external suppliers.

  • Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of formulas, testing, and results.

  • Use software tools such as SAP, Genesis, and ReposiTrak for formulation, nutritional analysis, and ingredient tracking.

  • Attend customer presentations and support technical discussions as needed.

  • Ensure food safety and compliance with GMP, FDA, and company policies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Culinology, Chemistry, or related field.

  • 5–7 years of hands-on R&D experience in food manufacturing, particularly with dry blends, meat/protein systems, or flavor development.

  • Strong working knowledge of food ingredients, functionality, and regulatory labeling.

  • Experience developing products under Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project standards is highly desirable.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with additional experience in SAP and Genesis Nutrition software preferred.

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Laboratory and production floor setting with moderate to high noise levels.

  • Frequent standing, occasional walking, climbing, reaching, and manual handling of materials.

  • Must follow all GMP and safety protocols.

  • Clear verbal and written communication in English is required.
