Pay: $25/hr.
Duration: 2-year contract

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Thermal and Physical Properties Testing Technician Contractor will work closely with the Product Testing Leads to support the testing of insulation materials which may include residential batts, duct board, duct wrap, mineral wool, loose fill, FDM, and MBI. This will require constant contact with the insulation materials and is a physically active role. These labs are nationally accredited and must always remain in compliance with NVLAP 17025. Proper PPE is required, including bump cap and safety glasses, which are provided, as well as safety shoes which are not provided.

This role offers hands-on experience and training in physical property and thermal testing methods. You'll collaborate with a diverse team and gain exposure to a variety of materials, tests, and departments across the business. While this role may not lead to a full-time offer within the department, it provides valuable resume-building experience and networking opportunities for future career growth.

This position will be onsite Monday-Friday, flexible daytime hours.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living Safely

  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies
  • Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self, team, and area visitors
  • Maintain current respirator fit program requirements, as needed

Maintain Lab Excellence

  • Work closely with Product Testing Leads to meet customer expectations for
    quality, turn-around time, communication of testing status, and achievement of overall lab outcomes
  • Collaborate with Product Testing Leads and the rest of the team to provide relevant and timely testing data/updates
  • Play an active role in supporting the business prioritization
  • Maintain an organized workspace, including sorting material delivered on pallets
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including ensuring calibration and
    functionality of equipment
  • Perform and record various physical and thermal testing of insulation products,
    such as compression, tensile strength, density, dimensions, and thermal conductivity
  • Take ownership of testing completed, including data entry, training requirements, and method updates when required
  • Check emails and calendar daily

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree preferred, but not required
  • The capability to stand and manipulate (lift, bend, reach) light weight (items for long periods of time)
  • The ability to lift average to heavy weight items (up to 50 lbs.) occasionally
    throughout the day
  • Must be self-motivated and accountable

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience working in a R&D or quality laboratory preferred
  • Demonstration of safe work practice
  • Understanding of laboratory techniques

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all operational processes and procedures
  • Proficient communication and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization
  • Creative mindset, willing to try new ways of doing things to improve efficiency and create value
  • Experience with a laboratory information management system preferred
