Description

Machinist Technician
Location: Cary, IL

The Machinist Technician will support manufacturing operations for a highly automated site in Cary, IL. This role will primarily help design and fabricate equipment to drive the process and productivity improvement and reduce costs using machine shop equipment such as CNC, Lathes, Mills, Band Saws, and other tools. The position involves various projects within the manufacturing process, including designing, repairing, and enhancing production equipment processes across the facility.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assess, organize, and implement corrective actions quickly for critical unplanned downtime or extended setup issues using design, fabrication, and machining experience.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to implement long-term solutions to improve or eliminate the recurrence of equipment issues.
  • Periodically assess and recommend new technology or machine shop equipment to management to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Coordinate scheduling for optimal production run order, planned work orders including PMs, and process improvement work orders in the machine shop.
  • Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing Operations, and Production Planning to maintain priority schedules.
  • Communicate shift project reports and statuses to other leads and production technicians.
  • Continuously advance skills, including specialized skills with new technologies and processes.
  • Identify, suggest, and implement modifications to increase productivity and reduce costs.
  • Notify Maintenance Technician Supervisor of any unusual problems needing escalation.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Experience with manual lathe, manual mill, and CNC operations.
Preferred Education:
  • High school diploma or GED plus college-level certification courses in the above fields.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years' experience.
Technical Skills:
  • Understanding engineering drawings, algebra, geometry, and shop math.
  • Ability to compute and verify dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of workpieces.
  • Produce jigs, fixture devices, gauges, and other measuring devices.
  • Knowledge of needed spare parts and associated vendors.
  • Expertise in the design, fabrication, and installation of production machine parts.
  • Ability to assist in troubleshooting and repairing electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic failures.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks and Mastercam for design purposes.
  • Proficiency in designing, programming, and machining tooling using CAD/CAM and vertical CNC.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to lift/carry 10-50 lbs. frequently; may rarely lift/carry 50-75 lbs.
  • Engage in prolonged stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, sitting, standing, or crawling as needed.
  • Job demands include repetitive work.
  • May require reaching, pushing, or pulling to accomplish job tasks.
  • Requires hand grasp ability, coordination of hands, eye/hand/foot movement.
  • Cognitive demands include visual and auditory discrimination/memory, reading ability, independent decision-making, and knowledge retention.
  • May encounter loud noises.
  • Operation of machinery as required.
  • Use of PPE, such as safety glasses, in designated areas may be required.
