Job Description – Metrology & Laboratory Operations Specialist
Location: Central NJ (On-site) Key Responsibilities
Equipment Lifecycle & Vendor Management (Primary Focus – 70%)

  • Manage full equipment lifecycle processes, including warranties, service contracts, maintenance schedules, and equipment documentation.
  • Partner with multiple vendors to coordinate service visits, establish/renew service contracts, and ensure CDAs and agreements are in place.
  • Track equipment warranties, service histories, and maintenance requirements; establish processes or systems where none exist.
  • Drive timelines, ensure operational readiness, and communicate upcoming service needs across departments.
  • Collaborate closely with Facilities & Engineering (F&E) to ensure alignment on calibration, repairs, utilities, and compliance needs.
Metrology & Instrument Support (Secondary Focus – 30%)
  • Perform basic metrology activities such as calibration, verification, and preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment (balances, pH meters, centrifuges, pipettes, etc.).
  • Support troubleshooting and basic maintenance for analytical instruments including HPLC, UPLC, GC, titrators, UV, FTIR, Raman, and other QC instrumentation.
  • Maintain and organize EMS and QC laboratory assets, ensuring accurate documentation and traceability.
Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with GMP standards, USP/EP, ICH guidelines, and data integrity requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation for calibrations, service events, deviations, and equipment status.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment readiness, lab operations, and compliance.
Top Required Skills:
  • Strong vendor and contract management experience (service agreements, renewals, warranty transitions).
  • Experience collaborating with Facilities & Engineering teams.
  • Familiarity with analytical chemistry equipment (HPLC, GC, balances, pH meters).
  • Empower software experience.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Engineering, or related scientific discipline.
  • Experience in an FDA-regulated pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
  • Hands-on experience with calibration and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation.
  • Practical knowledge of HPLC, GC, UPLC, titrators, Raman, UV, FTIR, PCR, and other QC/analytical tools.
  • Understanding of pharmaceutical laboratory workflows and operational processes.
  • Working knowledge of USP/EP, ICH, cGMP/EU GMP, and data integrity expectations.
  • Demonstrated success in a similar role within a fast-paced, highly regulated setting.
Preferred:
  • Experience in a startup or rapid-growth environment.
  • Background in metrology labs or analytical labs transitioning into operations roles.
  • Ability to independently develop tracking systems for warranties, service events, and equipment lifecycle management.
