Job Title: Metrology Specialist
Location: Tarzana, CA and some travel to Santa Monica, CA
Pay rate: $45.00- $50.00 an hr. BOE
The Metrology Specialist is responsible for overseeing the calibration, validation, and qualification of equipment and instruments within the facility. This role ensures compliance with policies, international standards, and regulatory requirements by collaborating with external contractors and internal teams to maintain robust metrology and documentation practices. This position is responsible for providing calibration services and support across all three operational locations, including periodic travel of up to 20% to our Santa Monica, CA facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- The Metrology Specialist works with external contractors to ensure proper performance of calibration and/or validation activities for equipment and instruments.
- They conduct thorough reviews of calibration results and vendor calibration certifications.
- They will generate detailed reports that align with company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and industry standards.
- They will ensure that calibration work orders have accurate data, adequate detail, and are completed and closed in a timely manner.
The role includes conducting failure analyses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions and ensuring all equipment is properly operated, calibrated, qualified, and validated using the metrology management software. - The Metrology Specialist represents the department during client audits, ISO audits, and regulatory inspections.
Responsibilities also include authoring, reviewing, and approving SOPs, CQV protocols, Non-Conforming Event and Out-of-Tolerance reports, and maintaining master on-call services to support facility operations. - They collaborate with other staff members on process optimization opportunities and communicate metrology needs to Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Manufacturing personnel.
Routine assignments are performed according to written procedures, requiring the ability to recognize deviations from accepted practice. - Minimal instructions are provided for routine work, with detailed guidance given for new assignments.
For supervisory roles, additional duties include communicating updated organizational information and job expectations, supporting staff, planning, monitoring, and appraising direct report performance, coaching and counseling, and conducting disciplinary actions as needed.
A thorough understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) is essential for success in this position.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Metrology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline, or a minimum of 5 years of directly relevant experience in calibration, validation, or metrology within a regulated environment
- Solid understanding of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Proven analytical, documentation, and communication skills
- Experience with metrology management software and equipment lifecycle management
- Ability to effectively interface with external contractors and internal stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience authoring SOPs, protocols, and reports
- Previous audit or inspection participation
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Experience using Blue Mountain Regulatory Asset Manager for completing calibration work orders.
Work Environment
This position may require occasional after-hours or on-call support to meet operational needs and will involve direct interaction with auditors and regulatory representatives.
