Description

Title: Procurement Specialist
Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract (1 year)
Pay Rate: $26-$30/HR

Are you a motivated procurement professional with a passion for engineering and a knack for strategic sourcing? We're looking for a Procurement Specialist to play a vital role in ensuring our client's organization has the right materials and equipment to keep projects moving forward. In this position, you will be the key driver in selecting and managing vendors, negotiating the best deals, and maintaining seamless supply chain operations to support our engineering initiatives. Your expertise will help us achieve operational excellence while fostering strong supplier relationships and maximizing cost efficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure company has the right materials and equipment necessary to function
  • Work within a given budget to purchase goods and services
  • Ensure items and services are purchased from specified suppliers and delivered according to agreed terms
  • Compare prices amongst various vendors to make sound purchasing decisions
  • Negotiate with contractors on price, mode of shipping, and delivery time
  • Order goods on a continuing basis to maintain inventory levels
  • Review invoices for accuracy, and authorize accounts payable department to issue payment
  • Evaluate performance of certain vendors to decide whether to continue buying from them
  • Inventory items to determine which ones need to be purchased
  • Enter data concerning inventory and order amounts into a computer database
  • Interface with other staff to plan and prioritize purchasing activities
  • Review planned orders, create requisitions for purchased items, and manage approval process
  • Transmit and prioritize approved purchase orders and support documents to supplier
  • Track order acknowledgement, prepare and communicate shortage and backlog reports, and provide visibility of potential interruptions to internal customers
  • Track orders and confirm system lead times, delivery dates, and costs
  • Review, update, and maintain purchase orders until they are closed
  • Ensure orders adhere to supplier agreements and contracts, report non-conformance activity
Required Skills:
  • Proven experience in procurement, sourcing, or purchasing within an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Excellent analytical skills to compare prices, evaluate vendor performance, and assess inventory needs
  • Proficiency in managing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Ability to review invoices for accuracy and ensure compliance with contractual agreements
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with procurement software and database management (Sage, SAP, Oracle, etc.)
Nice to Have Skills:
  • Knowledge of engineering specifications and technical requirements
  • Experience with ERP systems and procurement automation tools
  • Certification in purchasing or supply chain management (e.g., CPSM, CPM)
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • 2+ years of procurement, purchasing, supply chain, inventory management or related experience, preferably in an engineering or technical setting
  • High School or equivalent required; Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain or related field, preferred
Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Willingness to collaborate across departments and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
