Exciting news, Kelly is currently hiring for a Quality Control Technician role with Dow Chemical - Onsite at Fort Saskatchewan, AB Site!

Title: Quality Control Technician
Location: Fort Saskatchewan, AB
Schedule: 4/10 (Mon to Thu)
Contract duration: 12+ months



The QA Tech's primary qualifications are:
The turnaround QA Techs will be the interface between completed contractor work in the field and QA Coordinators and other members of the turnaround team. Their role is primarily to monitor contractor performance in the field and help them deliver the quality work Dow expects.
 

  • Certification in a recognized Trade or equivalent manufacturing skill with 5+ years of experience in the industry.
  • Basic computer skills - Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Access Ability to work in a team
  • Communications skills written, verbal, etc.
  • Familiarity with Dow workstation tools such as SAP, CPPS, the Site equipment files and drawing files and with TA work processes and procedures may be helpful

Responsibilities:
  • Auditing contractor flange assemblies to ensure they are performed by qualified crafts and are performed correctly.
  • Auditing contractor flange make-up to ensure they are following the Site Flange Makeup Procedure.
  • Early in the shutdown, emphasize Observation & Interactions (O&I's) with critical service providers. 
  • Ensure positive behaviors are reinforced and any gaps in contract work force (i.e. training) are identified early so they can be corrected.  Ensure all O&I's are documented.
  • Audit other contractor work and activities to verify that Dow procedures, EMETL practices, and pipe specs are being followed
  • Checking materials to verify that the correct nuts, bolts, gaskets, piping, valves, etc. are being installed.
  • Field review of completed jobs, which will include a visual check, a hands-on check and documentation of the work performed in the field as per the QC Process.  (Initial & date all QC checked flanges).
  • Retain a copy of all checklists, tests, inspections for the job being completed and ensure the hard copy has been returned to the QC Department for filing.
  • Work with TAC Team as liaison between Maintenance and Operations on all RTO and QC activities.
  • Review deficiencies list with QC Team and work with Area TAC to agree on deficiency classification and initiate the appropriate follow up action to resolve the deficiency.
  • Ensure jobs are done safely and intervene if there are unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain a log of all issues, both positive and negative and document changes to the QC Program, checklists, templates, spreadsheet, etc. for TA closure Report.
  • Attendance at key steps in equipment assembly or overhaul procedure when requested or scheduled.
  • Reconcile all gaps between Primavera schedule, the 3.4.2 RTO spreadsheet and QC activities to ensure a smooth transition to Operations for start-up.
  • Report the QA / QC progress of the daily work to enable adjustments to the daily work schedule when needed.
  • Check that all scheduled jobs and “A” punch list Items are done including the paperwork.
  • Provide input to the TA closure Report specifically on the QA/QC process used and help Identify possible MET items & gaps.
    Provide accurate communication for QA/QC cross shift.
  • Ensuring contractors' material handling practices address proper material issuing and storage as per G8S-6500-10, “Welding Material Control” and G8S-6500-11, “Materials Segregation” and the contractor's TA Specific Quality Plan.
  • Spot check leak detection tubing installations to ensure the tubing is being installed properly.
  • Verifying that touch up/repair painting is done. 
  • Assisting inspectors' activities, i.e. pictures, documentation, etc., at hold points or witness points when requested.
  • Verify that quality checklists and reports are completed and submitted as per the contractor's TA Specific Quality Plan.
  • Reviewing documentation when contractors report that jobs are complete and organize field walks and sign-offs as per the RTO process. 
  • Work with the contractor QA reps to ensure deficiencies are corrected.
  • Learn tubing fitting assembly procedures and check that anyone making up these fittings knows how to do it per the procedures.
  • Work with the QAQC Team, TAC's to agree on Systems and/or Jobs to be RTO'd and organize a field walk for these systems logging all deficiencies found.
  • Forward documents that are to be archived to the TA documenter.

Journeyman Ticket in Mechanical trade is preferred, Journeyman Ticket in Instrument/Electrical trade considered.
A Mechanical Engineering Technologist diploma from NAIT/SAIT or other accredited institution.


Travel: 20% travel to Dow Prentiss site in Lacombe.
