R&D Product Development Senior Chemist
The Client is seeking an experienced R&D Product Development Senior Chemist for a contract-to-hire opportunity at a growing and innovative organization in San Fernando, CA. The Client is an established and expanding organization within the food and flavor industry, known for delivering high-quality, innovative ingredients and products. The R&D Product Development Senior Chemist plays a key role in developing new and improving existing products while supporting internal teams and customers through technical expertise and leadership. Mon-Fri Day shift Full-time, on-site Responsibilities
- Analyze, develop, and improve new and existing products using both existing and new raw materials.
- Create and match products supplied by customers and internal personnel from competitor benchmarks.
- Demonstrate superior creativity and technical skill in product development activities.
- Originates and/or develops new and existing products, including juice concentrates and flavors, based on defined customer or internal requirements with little to no direction.
- Determine project feasibility based on production capacity, technology, equipment, and other operational limitations.
- Perform cost analysis and recommend suggested selling prices for all developed products.
- Create master formulas and detailed compounding instructions as needed.
- Prepare, review, and revise product specification sheets.
- Direct the evaluation and testing of product prototypes.
- Contact customer technical staff to assess requirements and develop products that meet or exceed performance expectations and application needs.
- Provide technical assistance to customers and brokers, including on-site support for first-time productions and troubleshooting.
- Assist Quality Control and Production teams during first-time manufacturing of new products.
- Organize and establish guidelines, procedures, and policies for all outgoing R&D samples.
- Provide training and technical guidance to R&D Product Development Chemists and Lab Technicians.
- Assume responsibility for all sample request inquiries during the R&D Product Development Manager's absence.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as required.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Chemist, preferably in product development or R&D.
- Strong analytical, laboratory, and research & development skills.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional teamwork.
- Supervisory or management experience preferred.
