Kelly® Science & Clinical is seeking a highly motivated individual for the following position: Research and Surgical Support Specialist
Purpose of Position:
The Research and Surgical Support Specialist is responsible for assisting with research and testing that supports product or procedural development. This role includes collecting and managing data, providing technical surgical assistance during both animate and inanimate labs, and coordinating study logistics while ensuring data integrity and regulatory compliance.

  • 7am to 330pm Monday to Friday
  • Pay is $23
  • Blue Ash, Ohio
  • Species are 90% swine and then sheep- goats – canines
Key Responsibilities

Study Preparation & Documentation

  • Develop study-specific documentation in accordance with GLP, SOPs, and protocols, including:

  • Study data sheets

  • Study binders

  • Animal-related documentation

  • Pre-study meeting materials

  • Coordinate logistics for project/study setup:

  • Request and organize study-specific equipment and instrumentation

  • Collaborate with study coordinators to schedule studies and meet project timelines

  • Place animal orders based on protocol and timelines

  • Ensure proper ordering of drugs per SOP and protocol requirements

  • Manage receipt, submission, and transfer of test/control articles

    Surgical & Lab Support

  • Provide surgical support, including intra-operative data collection and assistance at the surgical table

  • Participate in lab clean-up after surgeries

  • Support necropsy setup and procedures (including weekends if needed)

  • Assist with histopathology tasks, including managing, transferring, and receiving specimens to/from external labs

Data Management & Reporting

  • Dispense test/control articles as assigned

  • Perform data verification and intra-operative QC

  • Assist in addressing QAU audit findings

  • Prepare final reports and supporting documentation

  • Collaborate with principal investigators, internal/external partners, and regulatory agencies to support studies conducted on-site and at contract laboratories

Compliance & Oversight

  • Ensure all work complies with USDA, AAALAC, DEA, and Johnson & Johnson Animal Use Policies

  • Adhere strictly to GLP standards and maintain the highest levels of integrity in biomedical research

  • Serve as Test Article Dispensary Clerk when assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related STEM field

  • Strong knowledge of both human and animal anatomy/physiology

  • Experience working with large animals in a lab, research, or veterinary setting

  • Comfortable providing direct surgical support

  • Background in GLP-regulated environments

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy

  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated accountability and safety-minded behavior

Preferred:

  • Surgical Research Specialist (SRS) Certification

Leadership and public speaking experience
