Kelly Government Solutions is hiring for a system safety engineer on a U.S. Department of Defense contract with our customer in Woodland Hills, CA. This is a contract to hire opportunity.

As a member of the ISLE department, you'll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside systems, design, manufacturing etc. to evaluate different programs' safety engineering needs. This includes performing safety analyses on new programs and maintaining and revising safety analyses for existing programs when required due to obsolescence or customer requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E
- Prepare system safety engineering analysis and generate documents in accordance with MIL-STD-882E including PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, bent pin analyses, fault tree analyses, and software system safety analyses
- Identify system safety issues, propose solutions and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues
- Generate/review failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) or experience with FMEA.
- Develop, review, update and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
- Document hazards using a closed-loop hazard tracking system
- Communicate project status to the CAM and IPT lead as required
Required:
- BS in Engineering in a STEM discipline or relevant degree with five (5) years of system safety engineering experience, or a MS in engineering in a STEM discipline, or relevant degree with three (3) years of experience in systems and/or software safety engineering or a PhD with one (1) year of experience
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, recommend, and drive safety into system design, equipment, and procedures in order to mitigate or eliminate hazards
- Demonstrated ability to apply system safety engineering principles in accordance with MIL-STD-882E or analyses such as PHAs, FHAs, SHAs/SSHAs, bent pin analyses, fault tree analyses, and software system safety analyses
- Demonstrated ability to identify system safety issues, propose solutions, and ensure appropriate action is taken to mitigate safety issues
- Demonstrated ability to generate/review failure modes effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) or FMEA experience.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, update, and approve system safety artifacts and system safety requirements
- Knowledge of engineering drawings and ability to read schematics and parts lists.
- Ability to work independently
- Able to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and customers
Desired:
- BS in Engineering in a STEM discipline or relevant degree with eight (8) years of system safety engineering experience, or a MS in engineering in a STEM discipline or relevant degree with six (6) years of experience in systems and/or software safety engineering, or a PhD and four (4) years of experience
- Experience with electrical circuit schematics and FMECA data review
- Experience with requirements management tools such as DOORS
- Experience with other safety/reliability/engineering tools such as PTC Windchill Quality Solutions, Agile software tools, etc.
- Fundamental knowledge of principles of safety engineering including the capability to perform functional hazard analysis (FHA), system/subsystem hazard analysis (SHA/SSHA), SW FMECA, criticality analysis, fault tree analysis (FTA), safety analysis report (SAR), and fundamental knowledge of statistics
- Strong working knowledge of military systems safety and process standards and their Industry equivalent such as: DO-178B/C, DO-248, DO-254, ARP-4754, ARP-4761, MIL-HDBK-516C, etc.
- Military aviation experience
