CNC Programmer/ Toolmaker

$80,000

Overview
This client manufactures plastic dunnage (large trays/pallets that hold product in place during shipping)by thermoforming or injection molding. These are custom products that are sold to customers in a variety of industries including automotive, aerospace, food/beverage, distribution/warehouse, export, and more.
In this role you'll work in the Pattern Shop where you'll machine large blocks of wood/aluminum to create patterns for the casting of aluminum tooling used in thermoforming production. You'll setup, program, and operate CNC Routers and some CNC Mills to manufacture wood patterns. You'll work with design, manufacturing, and customers to prove out pattern and to obtain customer approval prior to sending the pattern to the foundry vendor for tool casting. You'll use grinders and saws for finishing work prior to tool release.
Responsibilities:
- CNC Programming of 3-axis, 3+2 axis, and 5 axis CNC machines on a variety of materials including wood, plastic, foam, metal, etc. Using CAD/CAM, G-code and M-code programming language
- Setting up and Operating CNC machines. Designing and building fixtures to accommodate all machining and trimming projects as well as GD&T driven check fixtures.
- Design and engineering custom projects and jobs with varying criteria as needed by production and management
- Using fabrication skills to support projects and jobs needed by production and management through the use of carpentry, welding, etc.
- Troubleshooting and maintaining a variety of machine tools and CNC machines
- Manage the flow and schedules of tooling from the CNC department to production
- Working with customers to provide quality parts that meet custom specifications
- Quoting and procuring all necessary materials for the daily operation of the CNC Department and Pattern Shop when necessary
- Produce wood patterns for Prototyping
- Produce aluminum patterns for production
- Create/Modify/Repair fixtures used to make thermoformed plastic components
- Fill out ISO and procedure driven documentation.
- Perform and document calculations used to judge quality during production
- Maintain inventory of items needed to complete jobs on your schedule
Qualifications:
- CNC programming, operating, set-up, and maintenance experience
- Prefer multi-axis CNC Routers, CNC Mills
- G & M Code machine programming
- Bridgeport a plus
- Design engineering experience
- Prototype machining, designing/building fixtures, machine tooling.
- CAD/CAM design and programming experience required.
- Prefer experience with Solidworks/HSMworks or Fusion 360
- Ability to use measuring equipment (Micrometers, Vernier Calipers, Steel Rules, etc.)
- Expert in the use of Pneumatic tools: Die Grinder, 90 Degree Grinder/Drill, etc.
- Experience with band Saw, Table Saw, and Disk Grinder
- Fabrication & carpentry skills
- Able to work independently on projects and as a member of a team
- Great motivational and people skills
- Must be self-motivated
- Must be willing to learn new things
- Ability to think outside the box
