Forklift Experience is a MUST

 A transportation yard cleaner is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and safety of a fleet or logistics yard. The role involves regular cleaning of trailers, facilities, and the outdoor yard area, often in varying weather conditions.
 Job summaryThe yard cleaner plays a vital part in daily transportation operations by ensuring a sanitary and hazard-free environment. In addition to general cleaning, they may perform minor maintenance tasks and operate yard equipment to assist with the flow of materials. Attention to detail and a commitment to safety are essential in this role. 
Responsibilities

  • Yard maintenance:
    • Sweep, mop, and vacuum inside trailers and other facility areas.
    • Clean, organize, and inspect the yard, including removing trash and debris.
    • Manage waste disposal and transport waste materials to designated areas.
    • Remove snow and grit walkways and common areas during winter months.
  • Vehicle and equipment cleaning:
    • Sweep out trailers and clean the exterior of fleet vehicles.
    • Wash and polish vehicle exteriors and interior surfaces, such as windows.
    • Detail vehicle interiors by vacuuming and wiping down surfaces.
  • Operational support:
    • Operate and maintain yard equipment, such as forklifts or pressure washers.
    • Report any maintenance issues, defects, or damages found in vehicles or equipment.
    • Assist in moving or staging materials within the yard as needed.
    • Detail interiors and exteriors of tractors. 
    • Terminal maintenance (painting, replacing light bulbs)
  • Safety and compliance:
    • Adhere to all company safety protocols and procedures.
    • Handle and store cleaning chemicals safely according to guidelines.
    • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). 

Skills and qualifications

  • Physical ability: The role requires physical stamina to stand, bend, and lift heavy objects for extended periods in all weather conditions.
  • Attention to detail: Must be thorough and meticulous to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and spot potential issues.
  • Reliability: The job demands punctuality and a strong work ethic to complete tasks on schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required, and previous experience in a warehouse, cleaning, or similar environment is preferred.
  • Safety knowledge: The ability to understand and follow safety protocols is critical for handling equipment and chemicals.
  • Communication: Good verbal communication skills for coordinating with team members and supervisors. 

Typical work environment
The work is performed primarily outdoors in the transportation yard, exposing the cleaner to all weather conditions, noise, and fumes. The environment can be fast-paced, requiring adaptability and flexibility to meet the demands of the business.
