Position Summary: This position is responsible for the safe operation of the plate filters and membrane Ultra Filters.
1. Role in Safe Quality Food (SQF)
- Filter operator is responsible for ensuring the product sent from the plate filters or membrane ultra-filters to the evaporator feed tanks meet SunRype specifications. If the product is out of specification, then the Production Supervisor must be immediately notified.
- Follow all SunRype Food Safety guidelines and Personal Health, Hygiene and GMP's.
2. Responsibilities:
- Proper CIP of the tanks and filters, Ultra Filter, and Plate.
- Operates pumps to ensure seal water is on.
- Weighs and adds ingredients including Carbon DE.
- Splits heaters and cleans plates as needed.
- Complete understanding of pressures to ensure tubes are not broken.
- Ability to drive forklift.
- Knowledge of when and how to complete a batchdown.
- Knowledge of appropriate valve sequence to send juice to the evaporator to ensure tubes do not burst.
- Properly document and monitor the filter process immediately prior to during and following the process.
- Stock filter aids in the filter and staging area.
- Able to use and understand basic laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Able to effectively communicate the process variables applicable to the operated filter to Evaporator, QA, and the Shift Supervisor.
3. Job Requirements:
- The following requirements are those that are normally required for performance of the position. 4. Physical Requirements:
This position requires the following physical demands up to 90% of the time:
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Must be able to carry 25 pounds up and down 21 stairs.
- Must be able to stand for 8 hours during a shift minus breaks and lunch.
- Must be able to work in hot, humid and/or cold conditions.
- Must be able to stand, bend, squat, crawl, kneel, reach above shoulders, climb ladders and crawl in tight and awkward workplaces for long periods of time.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination.
5. Non-Physical Requirements:
A. Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
B. Experience: Minimum one year experience as a filter operator preferred.
C. Special Skills:
- Able to work any shift, overtime and any or all days of the week in accordance with plant needs.
- Knowledge and awareness of proper lifting techniques.
- Knowledge and awareness of chemicals used for CIP and proper PPE while using them.
- Knowledge and awareness of filtration aids and dust produced by them.
- Properly do equipment checks daily and report any problems to maintenance.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Superb organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.

- Motivated, focused, and accountable for results.

- None required.
E. External Relationships:
- None
F. Internal Relationships:
- The Filter Operator must interact and communicate effectively with all employees of the organization. Effective communication is especially important with the shift supervisor, Evaporator Operator and QA Technicians.
G. Direct & Indirect Reports:
- There are no direct or indirect reports.
H. Backup:
- Backup for Filter operator would be another qualified Filter operator from the same shift or different shifts to cover the 8-hour shift.
