Job Summary

Leonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full time Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Bridgeton, MO facility. This role will be responsible for the design, fabrication support and modification of mechanical and/or electro-mechanical components, sub-systems and systems.  Projects vary and may include skills with Mechanical Analysis, Aerodynamics/Fluids, Thermal, Fluid Systems, Mechanical Packaging, or others.  This position evaluates and determines the design approach to meet production requirements for new or improved products or services, and investigates solutions to product or process problems.  Key skills are the ability to work and investigate assigned tasks in both an independent and team setting and to collaborate amongst all the technical disciplines to complete the assigned tasks.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate good judgment combined with technical expertise, possess an ability to learn new skills, and communicate effectively to team members from different disciplines.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform the design, development, modification, analysis, and documentation of various mechanical systems
  • Perform both system-level and component-level requirements-based design and integration tasks involving mechanical and electro-mechanical component-level tasks which include determining block diagram, preliminary design, detailed design, 3D modeling, simulation, prototyping, debug & test
  • Support and participate in moderately complex technical mechanical engineering activities
  • Responsible for completion of one or more concurrently assigned tasks, on time and meeting technical requirements
  • Work closely with an engineering team to conceptualize systems and mechanical designs
  • Develop component designs that are optimized for various manufacturing methods, such as subtractive and additive manufacturing, investment casting, welding, brazing, forming/sheet metal techniques, and other relevant processes
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in fielded products or systems and develop corrective modifications as needed
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to assess and address design for manufacturability concerns
  • Develop custom fixtures for test, evaluation, and manufacturing of mechanical equipment
  • Provide progress status for mechanical design assignments periodically
  • Participate in resolution of technical issues within the company and outside suppliers
  • Communicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customers as required
  • Conduct root-cause failure analyses of electro-mechanical components
  • Use computer aided design tools to create and update integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE mechanical modeling and drawing solutions

  • May participate in the preparation of moderately complex and significant proposals
  • Attend and participate in appropriate engineering, customer or business meetings

  • May lead and direct the work of others as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • At least 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience (industry experience preferred)
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Experience with using 3D modeling software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, CREO, Unigraphics, etc.
  • Ability to read and understand commercial and/or military mechanical drawings
  • Experience using Microsoft Office tools
