Job SummarySupervise a team manufacturing military and commercial rotating equipment, such as steam turbines, gas turbine generator sets, and permanent magnet motors for power generation, ship propulsion and other commercial applications. 9/80 Work Schedule; 2nd Shift hours: 2PM-12AM.
Job Responsibilities:
- Daily Planning, Execution and Area Management:
- Performs pre-shift task planning and prioritization activities to successfully execute on the Production Plan.
- Identifies back-up tasks in the event that all workable production plan tasks are manned.
- Plans and issues team member work assignments.
- Ensures team members are qualified to perform assigned tasks and that each team member understands the procedural details of their assigned tasks.
- Facilitates shift start-up meetings to communicate the Production Plan to all team members and ensures that each individual understands their role in its successful execution.
- Monitors team members and resources throughout the shift to maintain workflow and leads problem solving when performance lags expectations.
- Maintains a safe and clean work environment, including the activities and behaviors of team members and visitors in the area.
- Understands and ensures compliance with systems, policies and procedures
- Establishes effective team communication practices amongst team and between shifts.
- Reports actions, issues and status for each production plan task in end-of-shift summaries.
Team Management, Growth and Performance:
- Maintains required staffing levels by selecting, orienting and training employees.
- Communicates job performance standards to each direct employee and appraises team members relative to standards.
- Coaches, counsels, develops rewards and disciplines employees to meet and then exceed performance standards.
- Maintains accurate qualification level records for each team member within the versatility matrix and retains all required training documentation.
- Grows individual team members to meet work area qualification requirements.
- Collaborates with each employee to develop growth plans and provides reasonable opportunities to facilitate the plan.
Department Administration & Metrics:
- Understands team metrics and the root causes for any misses. Implements corrective actions.
- Assures team members understand department performance goals and work area metrics & actual team performance.
- Develops team approach on successfully executing actions/behaviors to achieve department goals.
- Planning and execution of team budget.
- Performs administrative duties in support of the direct team members; timekeeping, voucher approvals, personnel records, etc.
- Fair and consistent resolution of personnel issues (time and attendance, code of conduct, etc.…)
Cultural Behavior:
- Builds a culture of customer awareness and delivery ownership.
- Fosters a culture of collaboration and cooperation between shifts and departments.
- Continuously improves the performance of the department thru team based problem solving and empowering issue resolution at the team level.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent combination of Associates degree in a technical discipline with 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
- Excellent interpersonal, leadership, production planning and communication skills
- Experience with Industrial Engineering concepts and 5S/6S techniques
- Knowledge and familiarity with standards (ISO, AS9100, etc.)
- Ability to work beyond scheduled shift when required
- US citizen
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Navy Nuclear or Shipyard experience a plus
- Previous Motor Manufacturing experience strongly desired
- Experience with Mechanical Assembly desired
- Experience or familiarity with Controlled Work Packages desired
Physical Requirements
Position requirements required lifting (up to 30 pounds), walking, climbing, bending, sitting, standing, stooping and ability to work with and handle live magnets. Some occasional travel may be required.
U.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.
