Job Summary

Participates in the analysis, design, testing, documentation, implementation, support and auditing of comprehensive Hospital Information Systems and electronic health records (EHR).  Assists in evaluation, analysis, maintenance and development of system functionality to meet clinical objectives including participating in project plan development/tracking and workflow analysis. Coordinates resolution of system process or performance issues interacting with functional users, internal and external technology resources. Serves as a liaison between the clinical users and the application team as well as assisting with education and training deployment.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred: ASCP Certification

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum Years of Experience: 4 Years Directly Related Experience (IS or Clinical)
Substitutable Education & Experience:

High School Diploma & 4 Years of Experience can be substituted for one of the following combinations: 

Bachelor's Degree & 2 Years Related Experience;

Masters' Degree in a Related Field (IS, Clinical, Business or Healthcare Administration).

Required Certifications/Licensure: Current Epic Certification or must obtain Epic Certification within 6 months of entry into role
Required Training: Proficient in computers, use of clinical information systems, and Microsoft Office solutions; Strong experience in use of clinical information systems that affect patient care;Strong interpersonal skills and high degree of professionalism;Presentation skills and the ability to communicate effectively.

Essential Functions
  • Utilizes in-depth understanding and knowledge of workflows, policies, and procedures, patient care/clinical business processes, regulatory requirements and best practices to:      
    • Analyze existing practices by facilitating communication, cooperation and information from key users, ensuring patient safety and consistent practices throughout the organization.    
    • Resolve problems and recommends solutions through research, inquiry and data analysis maintaining logs and tracking of issues.            
    • Design, redesign and analyze processes and apply knowledge to build software application.
    • Contribute to the preparation of testing scripts and participates in testing for implementation, upgrades, and fixes.  Performs unit, system and integrated testing tasks.
  • Primary liaison between business units, technology and support teams.
  • Elicit system requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirement request, business and workflow analysis. Will be a team participant and contributor.
  • Serves as project champion to promote the integration of technology into the clinical setting.
  • Works with Information System Specialist and subject matter experts to develop tools and resources specific to the application. Will be a contributor and tester.
  • Prepares and presents to different groups in an effective manner appropriate for the audience. 
  • Participates and supports project and team goals, objectives and timelines working with a sense of urgency and accuracy to ensure effective implementation.
  • Documents needs assessments, processes, system requirements, change management, and user training materials to ensure successful communication to both technical team and the end user.
  • Assists in software selection and evaluates emerging technologies staying abreast of best practices.                       
  • Successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Assists in the coordination of system acquisition and implementation of assigned applications, including hardware and software. .

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Participates in the planning and preparation of go-live implementation as well as updates, patches, and other routine maintenance.
  • Provides ongoing user support and training, when applicable, paying keen attention to user needs and opportunities to offer solutions and modify processes to improve patient care and related efficiencies.
  • Identifies reports and develops report specifications for report writers to meet the needs of the application user.
  • Documents support calls and ongoing issue management
  • Proactively communicates and collaborates with external and internal customers including vendor solution providers.
  • Communicates with vendors as needed for system performance problems and questions. Level 2 will provide basic communication and problem identification.
  • Participates in short, medium and long range system planning
  • Initiates and/or maintains project plan documentation
  • Attends continuing education courses, seminars and conferences to keep abreast of Information Technology developments
  • Participates and supports change management process.
  • Follows “Service Excellence” guidelines
  • Performs all other duties as may be assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency, e.g., fire or disaster.
