Title and Summary

Assistant General Counsel, Product & Services Commercialization and Open Banking Overview:
Mastercard is a global technology company in the payments industry. Mastercard's Open Banking business provides the ability to securely share an account holder's financial accounts' data to access innovative financial experiences.
Mastercard is searching for a commercial, technology, and product lawyer to lead the global Open Banking and API legal team and be a trusted advisor to the business. The position is in Purchase, NY. Other location may be considered on a limited basis.

Role:
• Report into the Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Services & Strategic Growth, and lead the legal strategy and play a major role in commercial and product development and support matters for the business on a day-to-day basis.
• Serve as a member on leadership teams of both General Counsel, Services & Strategic Growth and Global Head of Open Banking and API, to ensure deep connectivity to Open Banking and API strategic initiative, and ensure alignment across the Services & Strategic Growth legal teams and the broader Law Department.
• Develop Mastercard's future leaders in the Law Department and set the vision and mission for the Open Banking and API legal team to execute against. Lead, manage, and develop a global legal team of 30+ lawyers and legal professionals.
• Provide primary counsel to Open Banking and API team to help develop products and strategies globally and champion initiatives of critical importance to the business, including navigating a regulated and diverse environment.
• Provide legal and business risk assessment and analysis on matters from new product constructs to commercial agreements, including regulatory, IP, and data privacy product risks, with support of Mastercard's regulatory, IP, and data privacy teams.
• Work with internal and external regulatory counsels relating to the impact of local laws, government regulations and directives relating to Mastercard's open banking solutions.
• Manage other day-to-day operational matters in supporting the business and the Law Department.
• Given the global nature of this role, some travel and ability to support other time zones are required.

All About You:
• Must have a strong decency quotient.
• A qualified lawyer with a solid academic and training background, licensed to practice in NY (or other relevant jurisdiction).
• Extensive in-house experience in managing general, commercial, product development legal matters and for a discrete (sub)business vertical.
• Experience in supporting a regulated industry. Experience in open banking is a distinct advantage.
• Strategic thinker, ability to connect the dots, proactive, and thought provoker. Active contributor in meetings with executive leadership. Ability to communicate concerns to high ranking executives.
• Business-minded, solutions-oriented, and pragmatic problem solver, working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

In line with Mastercard's total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
