Title and Summary

Director, Business Development, Digital Partnerships, China Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Business Development to lead our global partnership efforts with a designated portfolio of top-tier China internet companies. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing a global strategy to forge deep, multifaceted partnerships that drive significant revenue growth, product innovation, and market expansion for both Mastercard and our partners.

This is a high-visibility role requiring exceptional commercial acumen, executive presence, and the ability to navigate complex, cross-border organizations. The ideal candidate is a visionary dealmaker who can identify transformative opportunities and translate them into tangible, executed agreements.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategy & Vision: Develop and own the global partnership strategy for your assigned portfolio of key accounts. Identify and prioritize opportunities across co-branded products, core payment processing, new payment flows , data & analytics, and cybersecurity.
• Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong C-level and executive relationships within the partner's organization globally. Serve as the primary strategic contact and trusted advisor, ensuring Mastercard is top-of-mind for key initiatives.
• Deal Execution: Lead the end-to-end deal process, from initial ideation and structuring to negotiation, legal review, and signing. Own the business case and P&L modelling for partnership opportunities.
• Cross-Functional Leadership: Orchestrate and align internal Mastercard resources (Product, Engineering, Marketing, Legal, Compliance, Regional Market teams) to build compelling proposals and ensure seamless execution of partnership agreements.
• Market Intelligence: Maintain a deep understanding of the competitive landscape, regulatory environment, and emerging trends in digital commerce, fintech, and payments to inform strategy and identify new white-space opportunities.
• Revenue Growth: Be accountable for achieving and exceeding partnership-derived revenue targets, driving adoption, and identifying new monetization avenues.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in business development, strategic partnerships, or corporate development, preferably within the payments, fintech, or technology sectors.
• Proven Track Record: Demonstrable experience negotiating and closing complex, multi-million-dollar, strategic partnerships at a global scale. Experience with top-tier internet/tech companies is highly preferred.
• Exceptional Communication Skills: Native or bilingual proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory
• Strategic Mindset: Exceptional ability to think strategically, analyze market data, and translate insights into a compelling business strategy and actionable plans.
• Executive Presence: Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to influence and build rapport with senior internal and external executives.
• Leadership: Strong cross-functional leadership skills with the ability to navigate a large matrixed organization and mobilize virtual teams across different regions and functions without direct authority.
• Commercial Acumen: Strong financial and business modeling skills, with experience building business cases and managing P&L considerations.
• Education: Bachelor's degree required. MBA or other advanced degree is strongly preferred.
