Title and Summary

Lead Software Engineer (AWS Platform) We are seeking an experienced and motivated Lead Software Engineer to join Mastercard's AWS Platform Engineering Team. This role is critical in designing, building, and maintaining a scalable, secure, and highly available cloud platform on AWS. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal platform performance, cost efficiency, and alignment with best practices.
 
The ideal candidate is expected to have a strong understanding of AWS Platform & Services, Software Engineering, DevOps practices, and Problem solving skills. 
 
The Role
• Lead the design, implementation, and support of a scalable multi-account AWS platform using services such as AWS Organizations, Control Tower, VPC, IAM, etc.
• Strong understanding of AWS EKS, Docker, EC2, S3 and RDS.
• Develop and maintain infrastructure as code with tools like AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
• Establish and manage secure connections across the platform using AWS PrivateLink, Transit Gateway, and Direct Connect.
• Set up and enforce security controls and operational guardrails with AWS Control Tower, Service Control Policies (SCPs), and IAM.
• Oversee the full lifecycle of AWS services—from development through deployment, operations, and continuous enhancement.
• Champion automation and sustainable scaling solutions to improve system reliability and delivery velocity.
• Lead incident response efforts and foster a blameless postmortem culture.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams, encouraging technical growth and continuous improvement.
• Drive architecture reviews, conduct code assessments, and nurture a collaborative engineering environment.

All About You 
• 5+ years of experience in AWS cloud engineering or similar roles.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services like Lambda, EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, MSK, Glue, EMR, etc.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools (AWS CDK).
• Strong knowledge of networking in AWS (VPC, Direct Connect, PrivateLink, Transit Gateway, etc.).
• Experience with CI/CD tools like AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, BitBucket/GitHub, Artifactory, Sonarqube, etc.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles and experience applying them in languages like Python or Java.
• Scripting skills in Python, Bash, or similar languages.
• Strong knowledge of the best practices around Logging, Monitoring, and Alerting solutions.
• Experience with software deployment and configuration automation.
• Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale systems.
• Ability to debug, optimize code, and automate routine tasks.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, with effective communication skills and a sense of drive.
 
Preferred Qualifications
• AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer.
• Familiarity with container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with AWS Control Tower, including setting up guardrails, managing Service Control Policies (SCPs), and configuring Landing Zones.
• Knowledge of security best practices and frameworks.
